Description

March 8, 1927. I
. 1,620,429 G. R. BELL WATER CLOSET Filed Dec. 1, 1926 INVENTOR Patented Mar. 8, 1927.
UNITED STATES GORDON It. BELL, F ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO.
WATER-CLOSET.
Application filed. December The object of my invention is the provision of a water closet so constructed and equipped that its bowl can be expeditiously and thoroughly cleaned through the medium of a jet of hot water.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification 1- Figure 1 is a general view of a water closet constructed in accordance with the preferred embodiment of my invention.
Figure 2 shows the preferred relative arrangement of the hot water jet conduit.
Similar numerals designate corresponding parts in both views of the drawing.
The flush tank 1 and the bowl 2 may be of the types shown in Figure 1 or of any 10 other types compatible with the purpose of my invention.
Leading from the tank 1 or from any other appropriate source of water supply is a con duit which preferably comprises a depending pipe secured to the upright arm of an elbow 3 while a pipe 4 is connected to the forward arm thereof and the bowl 2, and arranged in the usual relation to the latter.
At 5 is a pipe which is valved as at 6 and is designed to be connected with the hot water boiler of a dwelling house or with any other source of hot water supply. The said pipe 5 is connected at its end shown with a short pipe 7, and said short pipe 7 is connected in turn with the downturned portion of a conduit section 8 which is preferably formed integrally with and extends horizontally from the center of the head of the elbow 3 in a manner to form with the elbow a substantially T-shape configuration as best shown in Figure 2 of the drawings,
and said conduit section 8 is directed forwardly within the elbow as at 9 so as to have the capacity of jetting a stream of hot water 1, 1926. Serial No. 152,001.
against the portion of the bowl 2 opposite to the connection of the pipe 4.
Manifestly when it is desired to use hot water to facilitate the thorough cleansing of the bowl 2 and to remove sediment from the bowl 2 it is simply necessary for the operator to open the valve 6 when a jet of hot water will be discharged through the conduit 8 and against the interior portion of the bowl opposite to the connection of the pipe at. Manifestly the hot water especially when applied in the manner stated will quickly and thoroughly clean the interior of the bowl 2.
hen it is not desired to utilize the hot water as stated the water closet is operated in the ordinary well known manner or in any other manner compatible with the purpose of my invention.
I have specifically described the preferred embodiment of my invention in order to impart an exact understanding of the said embodiment. I do not desire, however, to be understood as confining myself to the disclosed construction and relative arrangement of parts inasmuch as my invention is delined by my appended claim within the scope of which changes may be made without affecting my invention.
What I claim is:
A water closet comprising a bowl, a vertical pipe adapted to lead from a source of flushing water suply, an elbow having one end connected to said pipe, a conduit connected to the opposite end of said elbow and leading therefrom for communication with the water closet bowl, a conduit arranged in said elbow and having a portion extend ing rearwardly from the head thereof. and a valved pipe connected to the end of said portion and adapted to be in communication with a source of hot water supply.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
GORDON R. BELL.
