SANITARY FIXTURE Filed oci. 7, 1929 Kg? Im/fof I l) ATTORNEY Patented Feb.v 5, 1935 UNITEDSTATES PATENT 'QFQFCE 1,990,268 SANITARY FIXTURE Raymond E. Crane, Kittanning, Pa. i Application October 7, 1929, Serial No. 397,969
7 Claims;
This invention relates to certain improvements in sanitary fixtures, and particularly to a novel form of seat for a closet bowl in combination with a combinedhinge and water supply 1 .5 pipe for pivotally-securing` the seat to the bowl.
One of the objects of this invention is to pro-y vide a construction of neat and novel form wherein a bidet is incorporated in thecloset seat per se, resulting in eliminating all exposed nozzles or similar piping or obstructions and thus greatly simplifying `the cleaning of the seat and bowl and obviously producing va far more sightly and sanitary fixture than heretofore used and provided in prior devices of this character, as disclosed in applicants Patent No.
1,690,478 over which this present structure is an v improvement. n
A further object of the invention is the provision of a bidet construction that can be applied to the usual closet bowl with slight alterations, by merely substituting this improved form of seat for the old conventional seat as at present used. Y
By this construction, to'be more fully hereinafter described, both the upper and lower faces of the closet seat are clear of any mechanical or metal fixtures such as nozzles, piping or hinges and therefore there is nothing to interfere with the maintaining `of the seat in an absolutely clean and sanitary condition.
A further object is accomplished, in that, with this improved constructionv the seat can be mounted in closer contact-with the bowl than in those construction wherein the nozzle is mounted vbelow the seat and between the bottom of the seat and the top of the bowl.
In addition the provision of a bidet incombination with a closet bowl isfgreatly simplified by the present invention, and as a matter of a/SSEI'II- the manner of enclosing the piping within the K rear portion of the seat; and
Fig. 3 is a plan View..
Referringy to the drawing in detail venticn comprises an'improved form of seat 1 having embedded in its rear portion a transverse pipe section 2 anda forwardly projecting discharge pipe 3 provided with a, slightly upturned outlet end portion (i. The transverse pipe section 2 extends out beyond both edges of the seat 1 to provide a means for hinging the seat to the bowl. This is accomplished by supporting the ends of the pipe section 2 by hinge posts 5 having the lower ends thereof. screw threaded and mounted in the rear portion of the closet bowl. One end 'of the transverse `pipe section 2 is closed andthe other end is provided with an extension 6 so constructed as to form a water tight rotatable slip joint rconnection with a gland nut or the like 7, properly packed to maintain a fluid tight connection during the rotation of the pipe section 2 and its extension 6 'within said joint. n i
Transversev pipe section 2 vand its extension 6 is connected to la source of water supply 8 through a hand controlled valve 9 whereby upon `the inn the opening of the valve water will be directed through the transverse pipe section 2 and discharge pipe 3, into the bowl.
In the preferred embodiment of the'invention the transverse lpipe section-2 and discharge pipe 3 are preassembled, there being a screw threaded connection between said pipes as shown at 10 andthis joint is thereafter securely soldered or similarly fastened in addition to the threaded connection.
This assembled fitting is then molded into th seat, said seat being preferably constructed of any suitable plastic material such as hard rubber and the like whereby the transverse pipe section 2 and discharge pipe 3 will be permanently mounted within the rear end of the seat.
With the constructions above outlined they transverse pipe section 2-not onlyforms a means of supplying the water to the nozzle opening 4 but also provides a Very simpleeicient andconvenient means ,forl hingedly lconnecting the seat to the bowl without requiring any additionalk fixtures other than the hinge posts 5. anchoredk in the rear portion of thebow1.. n `What isclaimed as new is:
, `1. A closet seat having. formed integrally with the-rear portion thereof, aforwardly directed' and upwardly curved tubularnozzle and means for connecting said nozzle with a source of water supply.
2.. A closet Lseat having formed integral with the rear portion thereof, a passageway comprising arfo'rwardly and upwardly curved nozzlel the 'rear' portion thereof, a passageway com-- prising a forwardly and upwardly curved tubular nozzlev and means forconnecting said' nozzle with a source of water supply.y
4. A closet seat having formed integrally with l the rear portion thereof, a transverse passageway and an intersecting forwardly and upwardly directed passageway vand means Vfor connecting said transverse passageway to a source of .water supply.` v
5. A sanitary xture including a bowl and a seat, a transverse passageway formed integral Withthe rear portion of the seat, a forwardly and upwardly directed passageway also formed integral with the seat in communication with said transverse passageway and a tubular lining for the transverse passageway in communica'- tion with a source of water supply, said tubular lining also providing a means for pivotally connecting the seat with said bowl.
v6. A sanitary fixture including a bowl and a seat, a transverse passageway formed integral with the rear portion of the seat, a forwardly and upwardly directed passageway also formed '7. A sanitary xture including a bowl and aseat, a transverse passageway formed integral with the rear portion of the seat, a forwardly and upwardly directed passageway also formedl integral with the seat in communication with f said transverse passageway, a tubular lining for the transverse passageway extending outwardly from the edges of the seat, means for hingedly connecting said extensions to upwardly projectingposts carried by the bowl, meansfor-conynecting one of said extensions to a source of water supply, a valve for controllingsaid Water supply and a tubular lining comprising a nozzle for the said forwardly and upwardly directed passageway, whereby upon the manipulation of said Valve a stream of'water willbe directed forwardly into the bowl lfrom the rear of said seat.
