PATENT OFFICE.
CARL N. RAMSTAD, OF VALDEZ, TERRITORY OF ALASKA.
FASTENING DEVICE.
Application filed January This invention relates to fastening devices especially adapted for reinovably securing storm sash and the like in position for use, an object being to provide a device of this character which is novel in construction and by means of which storm sash and the like may be readily secured or removed.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a fastening device of the character mentioned which'is capable of lateral sliding movement and which includes novel means for holding the device in locked posi-- tion.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation showing a storm sash secured in position by means of the fastening devices which constitute the present invention.
Figure 2 is a section through the illustrating its position within the frame of a window.
Figure 3 is an enlarged plan view of one of the fastening devices with the cover plate broken away.
Figure 4i is a similar view with thecover plate in place. 1
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5 Figure 4:.
Figure 6 is an elevation showing the device applied to a horizontally arranged window sash.
In the drawings wherein like characters of. reference denote corresponding 'zarts, there is illustrated a storm sash which forms the subject matter of an application filed by me April 9, 1924, Serial No. 705,327. The fastening device of the present application comprises a plate 10 which is designed to be secured within a countersink 11 provided in the frame of the sash 12. Any suitable means may be provided for securing the plate in position, such as screws 13.
The plate 10 is provided with an arcuate slot 14 and extending through this slot'is a headed stud 15 which is carried by a preferably curved bolt 16, the latter being movable 31, 1925. Serial No. 6,035.
within a recess 17 provided in the frame of the sash 12. The outer end of the bolt is beveled as indicated at 18 so as to provide a penetrating point which is adapted to bite into the window frame 19. V
The slot 14 of the plate 10 is shaped so as to provide a seat for the headed stud 15 when "the locking bolt is forced into the window frame as indicated by the dotted lines in Figure 4 of the drawings. Any siiiitable means may be utilized for forcing the pointed end of the bolt into position, such as by striking it with a hammer in such manner as to force the bolt into the frame and the stud into its proper seating posit-ion.
The fastening device as illustrated and described will provide convenient means for securely positioning a storm sash or the like in such manner as to prevent its accidental removal, yet permit of the ready removal of the sash when desired.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 2- A fastening device comprising in combination with a member having a recess therein, a plate having an arcuate transversely extendin slot therein, a bolt comprising a flat elongated member having a curved edge and having one of its flat faces adapted to engage the inner face of the plate, a chiselshaped penetrating end at the outer end of the bolt, the bevel of said chisel-shaped end being upon the face of the bolt remote from the plate so as to present a fiat wide resisting surface, a headed operating stud carried by and extending outwardly from the bolt through the slot, and the curved edge of the bolt being adapted to ride upon one wall of the recess .to project one corner of the chisel-shaped penetrating end in advance of the other corner to facilitate penetration.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CARL N. RAMSTAD.
