W. B. FIELDS SHIRT POCKET Filed Dec. 18, 1925 ZUWM amou vtoz Patented Feb. 22, 1927.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM BUCHANAN FIELDS, OF NEW ALBANY, MISSISSIPPI.
SHIRT POCKET.
Application filed December 18, 1925. Serial No. 76,263.
This invention relates to apparel, and aims to provide a novel form of safety pocket to be employed in connection with the usual pocket of a garment.
5 An important object of the invention is to provide a pocket of this character having a guard normally closing the mouth thereof, the guard being secured along its side edges in such a way that it cannot be lifted and H may only be opened by exerting an upward pull at the lower edge of the guard.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the com- 5 bination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made 20 'within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing: Figure 1 is an elevational view illustrating a pocket constructed in accordance with 25 the invention. Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is asectional 3-3 of Figure 1.-
Referring to the drawing in detail, the
reference character '5 indicates a portion of a garment to which the pocket forming the subject matter of the present invention is secured.
The pocket is indicated generally by the reference character 6 and includes a strip of fabric material folded .upon itself to provide an inner section 7 and an outer section 8, the pocket being sewed to the garment 5,
by lines of stitching 9 which also hold the lowerends of the pocket together.
The side edges of the pocket are sewed to the garment 5 by means of spaced lines of View taken on line stitching 10. The reference character 11 indicates the guard for the secret pocket formed by the outer section 8, and as shown,
'lies in the fact that the lines of stitching 10 extend throughout the length of the pocket 1 and act to secure the side edges of the guard 11 to the pocket and garment with the result that the only way that access to the secret pocket may be had, is by bulging the central portion ofthe guard 11 outwardly, thereby providing a slight opening at this point to permit an article to be placed in the pocket or removed therefrom.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that i the pocket formed between the outer section 8 andinner section 7 constitutes a secret pocket in which valuables may be placed and which will be protected against removal by unauthorized persons, it being natural for a pickpocket to place his hand in the opening at the top of the pocket.
I claim:
A pocket construction including a length of cloth material folded upon itself and having one end thereof extending above the opposite end ofthe length of cloth material, said length of material being sewed to a garment along its side and bottom edges, a guard embodying a length of cloth folded upon itself, one end of the first mentioned length of cloth material being positioned between the folds of the guard and sewed therein, said guard being sewed to the garment along the edges of the guard, the lower edge of the guard. overlying one end of the first mentioned length of material.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature.
WILLIAM BUCHANAN FIELDS.
