UNITED STATES ALICE FRIEDA JAGOE, OF BOGOT A. NEW JERSEY.
CREEPING GARMENT FOR BABIES.
Application filed September This invention relates to creeping garments for babies, an object of the invention being to provide a garment which can he slipped over the ordinary clothing of a child. and which will protect the clothing even though the child crawls or creeps over the floor or ground.
It is of course to be understood that the garment is worn with as little clothing on the child as desired, but it is primarily designed for use to prevent the soiling of the childs clothes.
A further object is to provide a garmentof this character which protects the knees of the child, which is rendered waterproof wherever desired and which is capable of a full opening at the bottom for the positioning of the garment on the child or the removal of the garment therefrom, and to enable the change of diapers which may be necessary from time to tlme.
A further object is to provide a garment of this character which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonably low ricia an which will greatly reduce wear and tear on the clothing of the child as well as prevent the soiling thereof.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 isa perspective view of my improved garment, the view being taken from the rear of the garment, with the elastic tapes forming the leg openings being disconnected and the crotch and covering flap open;
Figure 2'is a view in longitudinal section on the line 22 of Figure 1, but showing the leg opening tapes closed and the flap closed;
Figure 3- is an inverted plan view of Figure 2.
1 represents the body portion of my improved garment which can be made. of any suitable material, for example, thin leather, oilcloth, or any other material which may be rendered waterproof, or otherwise, as desired, may be employed for the purpose, and I do not limit myself to the materials employed."
At the upper end of the garment 1 I pref 25, 1925. Serial No. 58,599.
crably provide shoulder straps 2 to support I the garment on the child, although other suitable fastening means may be provided as may be desired. At the front and top of the garment I preferably provide a bib 3 and I also preferably provide an elastic binding 4 at the upper edge of the garment to hold the latter around the body of the child.
The garment 1 at its bottom has a full opening or, in other words, is capable of a full opening, with knee pads 5 constituting extensions of the front portion. Elastic bands 6 are provided at the lower ends of the knee pads 5 to fit around the legs of the child, and elastic bands 7 are located at the upper ends of the knee pads.
The lower bands 6- are endless in construction while the upper bands 7 extend across the upper ends of the knee pads and along the bottom edge of the garmen z at the rear for the desired distance. Snap fasteners 8 are provided at the respective ends of these tapes 7 so that they may be connected and form a leg opening, but may be readily disconnected so as to give a full opening to the bottom of the garment.
An extension 9 suitably covered with thin rubber, oilcloth, or other waterproofing material is located between the knee pads and constitutes an extension of the front portion of the garment. This extension 9 is of such length that it may be positioned between the legs of the child and be coupled at the rear of the garment by snap fasteners or other suitable coupling devices 10. 7
It will thus be noted that when the snap fasteners 8 are disconnected the garment can be readily placed on the child over the clothing, and when the snap fasteners 8 are connected the garment will be held in place on the child and permit full leg action[ The extension 9 can be connected and disconnected at will so that whenever it is necessary to change the diaper of the childor to remove the garment this can be readily'done.
Various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself comprising a body portion, knee pads extending downwardly from the lower edge of the garment at the opposite s1des of the front thereof, separable couplings directly connecting the front and back of the garment adjacent the upper inner edges of the knee pads and forming complete leg openings and leaving an opening in the bottom of the garment between said leg openings,
\ said opening being appreciably larger than the leg openings, and an extension projecting from one portion of the garment b e-. tween said coupling members and adapted to be secured tothe other portion of the garment, forming a closure for the said large opening between the leg openings. 4
2. A garment of the character described,
comprisin" a bod ortion {havin an 0 11 lower end and an iigper end, knee pads iii)- jecting downwardly from the front lower edge of the: garment and having the rear cut away to afford ventilation and increase flexibility, elastic bands at the lower ends of the knee pads, separable elastic bands located at .the upper ends of the knee pads and at the lower edge of the bod portion at the rear thereof, an extension epending from the front of the garment between the knee pads and of a size and length to be positioned between the legs of the wearer,'a'nd detachable coupling means adapted to connect the end of the extension with the rear of the garment.
