NECKTIE HOLDER.
Application filed. December 21, .1925, Serial No. 76,572.
' provement to overcome certain practical objections to, and defects in, necktie holders of the above type.
'A further object of the invention isto provide a necktieholderwhich possesses advantages in points of simplicity and efliciency, and, at' the same time proves itself comparatively inexpensive in manufacture.
lVith the above and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and finally pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, where in like characters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views:
Fig. 1, is a front elevation of a tie holder embodying the features of my invention and it is shown as provided with a neck tie which is shown in dotted lines. I
Fig. 2, is a side elevation thereof. a
Fig, 3, is a rear elevation of the tie holder.
' -Fig. at. is a detail in perspective of a portion of the socket member for receiving the slidable collar button engaging member.
Fig. 5, is a sectional view of the tie holder taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6, is a cross sectional view of the tie holder taken on line 6-6 .of Fig. 3.
. Fig. 7 is a cross sectional view of the tie holder similar to Fig. 6, but showing both sections of a necktie applied thereto.
Fig. 8, is a detail of the spring catch.
Fig. 9, is a detail of the tie clamping r plate.
Briefly, the necktie holder comprises a tie engaging and shape retaining body member including collar engaging guard arms and a one piece collar button engaging member upon which the body member is ad justably mounted.
The body or form member 1 of the tie holder is preferably a shell like member which is longer than it is wide. Briefly, the form member is dish shaped having a longitudinally and transversely outwardly curved front face 2 terminating in opposed rearwardly directed side walls 3 and 3'. Ayportion ,of these sidewalls are at the free edges bent at a right angle to the side walls and directed toward each other to form lips 4, as clearly, shown in Figs. ,3 and (S. The form member 1 is preferably made from resilient material, such asspring brass, celluloid composition, bakelite, or the like so that when the side walls are pressed toward each other they will, when pressure is relieved thereagainst, return to their normal positions. The reason for this will be apparent hereinafter. V v
The sidewall 3, is provided with an integral extension. 5 which-is directed at a right angle to the wall toward the opposite wall 3, but does not come in contact there with owing to the gap 6. This extension 5 is so folded at its inner, or free end as -to provide a sleeve 7 to be slidably mounted upon a collar button engaging bar or strip member 8. The sleeve 7 is provided in its wall with a suitable slotted. opening 9 to receive the hook shaped end 1.0 of a locking member 11, which locking member 11 has its outer end provided with a plurality of coils. 12 so as ,to slip over the free edge of, the'side wall 3. The locking member 11 is held from displacement at its coiled end by means of a suitable protuberance 13 punched outwardly in the wall 3 and en circled by the outer coil 12 of the locking member 10, as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
The collar engaging member 8 is provided along one of its edges with a plurality of suitable notches 14 for the hooked end 10 of the locking member 11 to engage, and these notches are so formed as to prevent the form member 1 from slipping downwardly upon the collar engaging member 8 until the lower ends of the side walls 3 and 3 have been slightly forced toward each other by the fingers of the operator so as to release the hooked shaped end 10 of the lockingmember 11 from engagement with the notches 14 thereof, as is manifest. The upper end of the collar'engaging mem-. ber 8 is provided with a bifurcated hook shaped collar button engaging head section 15 to receive. a collar button stem 16, as
shown inFigs. 3 and 5.
The upper end of the form member 1 is provided with a pair of suitable curved flat resilient or flexible guard arms, or wings 17 to be positioned under the folds 18 of a collar to assist the button engaging member 8 in holding the necktie holder in its properly adjusted position and free from lateral, or swinging displacement when the form memher 1 has once been properly adjusted upon the collar button engaging memberS.
The necktie which is designated 19 may be folded upon, or tied upon the form memher in any suitable desired sha e, one of which shapes is to fold the necktie 19 over the upper edge of the holder land then apply a second tie section 20 to the front portion of the tie 19 opposite the form holder '1 so as to resemble the knot of a four-in-hand necktie. The second tie member, or encircling knot portion 20 has its free ends folded.
to the back of the holder 1 and over the lips land. they are held down by means of a resilient plate 21 which is frictionally applied thereto with its edges embedded in the material of the encircling tie portion and clamped or wedged behind the form holder lips l, as shown in Fig. 7 and which particular four-in-hand necktie construction is embodied in a co-pending application.
From the foregoing description, it is evident that I provide a necktie holder that 'is'siniple and comparatively 'neXpensive in manufacture, easily applied to a collar and removed therefrom, substantially locked in its adjusted position to prevent it from becoming accidentally displaced, or removed from the collar button and which is light in Weight and highly elficient for the pur pose intended.
The many advantages of the herein described invention will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art to which it QappertainsQ I do not desire to be understood aslimiting. myself to the exact detailsof constructionand arrangement ofparts herein described and illustrated, as it is manifest that variations and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention and the terms of the following claims, hence I wish it to-be understood thatlreserve the right to make any such changes, or modifications as may fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims when fairly construed. I
\Vlrat I clainr'isz' v 1 A necktie holder ,comprising suppor iug member having a plurality of notches along its length, bifurcated button engaging head at the upper end of said. member, a dished shell like form member slidably mounted upon said supporting member, a locking member applied to one of the side walls of the form member and provided with a hook shaped inner end for engage ment with one of the supporting member notches to prevent accidental displacement of the form member in any of its adjusted positions upon the supportingmember, a sleeve forming a part of the form member to prevent lateral displacement of the form member upon the supporting member and curved guide wings directed outwardly and upwardly from the form member.
2. A necktie holder comprising asupporting member having a'plurality of notches along its len th, a bifurcated. button engaging hook directed downwardly and outwardiy from the upper end offlsaid supporting member, a shell like member slidably mounted upon said supporting member, means can ried by the shell and engaging in the notches of the supporting member to prevent acci dental displacement of the shell upon the supporting member, means forming a. part of theshell to prevent lateral displacement of the shell upon the supporting member and curved guide wings directed outwardly and upwardly from said shell.
. 3. A necktie holder con'iprising a supporting" member having a plurality of notches along one of its side edges, a bifurcated col- .lar button engaging hook directed from the upper end of the supportin member, a
b shell. like shaped member having a longitudinally and transversely curved front face slidably mounted upon said supporting member, means to prevent lateral displacement of the shell upon the supporting member, a
end of one side of the shell and having a hook shaped opposite end for engagement with the notched supporting member to prevent accidental downward displacement of In testimony whereo-i l. have hereunto affixed -m y signature.
