Fig; 14 is a front elevation of a modified forml of means for attaching the device toa shirt;
Fig. 15 is a vertical section on the line |5-l5' of Fig. 14.
While a number of preferred embodiments of the invention are illustrated in the drawings, it will be understood that minor changes and modi-- fications may be made in the particular constructions shown, and the invention may be' embodied instill otherforms as will appeal to those skilled in the art and falling within the scope of the appended claims withoutdeparting from the spirit of the invention.
'Irhe invention broadly comprehends a tiel holder comprising a part attachable tothe front of a shirt to secure the device thereto and a pair of devices attachable to opposite side marginal portions of a necktie with a flexible chain connection betweenA eachy of said devices and the part that-is attached to the shirt. In the particular' embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 to 10 of the drawings, the part to be at'-V tached to the front of a shirt is shown as a clip of the lever type, the same being generally; designated I and comprising a front bar 2 and a co operating spring pressed clamp lever 3 pivotally connected to a portion 4 extending rearwardly from one. end of the front' bar 2. The clip l is to be engaged with the edge portion 5 of the front of a shirt 6 as shown in Fig. 3` of the drawings.
Connected with the front bar 2 of the clip I is a short iiexible chain member 1, this chain memberv extending through and slidably engaging a ring 8 on the front-bar 2 at the free end thereof. At each end' of the chain member 7 is a clip designated generally- 9, the pair of clips being adapted' toV be detachably secured to oppositeside` marginal portions of a necktie l0 as ill-ustrated in Figs; l and. 3. When the tie-holder is 3 applied in operative position as shown in the drawings, with the clip I attached to the shirt front and the clips 9 attached to opposite edge portions of the necktie, the necktie will be held in proper position while allowing limited longitudinal movement of the same relatively to the shirt in response to movement of the body of the wearer. With the chain member 'I slidably engaging the ring 8 on the front bar 2 of the clip I, the chain member can oat into a self-L adjusting position.
Each clip member 9 comprises front and back members II and I2. The front member II has a rearwardly extending loop portion I3 at one end pivotally connected to the back member I2 at one end thereof, the loop portion I3 having laterally projecting lugs I4 engaging apertured ears I5 on the back member I2. Figs. 3 and 7, the loop portion I3 extends beyond its pivotal connection with the back member I2 so that the pivotal connection is concealed from view from the front of the clip. The loop portion I3 terminates in a reversely curved portion I6 that cooperates with a spring tongue I'I on the back member I2, the spring tongue acting to press the front member toward the back member. On the front member Il are teeth I8 for gripping the necktie. The back member I2 is provided at its free end With a ring with which is connected the terminal link at one end of the chain member 'I. The front member II of the clip is longer than the back member so that its free end portion overlaps the free end portion of the back member I2. This construction, as will be understood, facilitates the ready engagement of the clips over the edge portion of the necktie. The front member ofeach of the clips 9 is shown with an ornamental initial letter I9 on its front face.
The modified form of clip illustrated in Fig. 10 of the drawings is the same in construction as that shown in Figs. 4 to l0 except that in this instance, the free end portion of the back member designated in this view overlaps the free end portion of the front member 2I.
By the special arrangement of parts hereinbefore described, a tie holder is .provided that is simple in construction, that will operate efficiently, and that can be readily applied in operative position. The device is automatically adjustable to accommodate ties of different widths and when in operative position the flexible tie retaining means is disposed at the back of the necktie, and all of the tie holder that is visible from the front of the necktie is the ornamented front members of the pair of tie engaging clips tting neatly over opposite side marginal edge portions of the tie. v
In Fig. ll of the drawings is illustrated a modied form of the device in which instead of a single flexible chain member connecting the pair of tie engaging clips to the clip attached to the shirt, the necktie engaging clips are exibly connected by separate short chain members to the clip which secures the tie holder to the shirt. In this view 22 designates generally the lever type clip for attaching the tie holder to the shirt. 23 designates the front bar of the clip which in this instance is provided at each end thereof with a ring 24. 25 designates the tie engaging clips each connected by a short chain 26 with one end of the front bar 23 of the clip 22, one terminal link of the chain engaging a ring 24 and the other terminal link of the chain connecting with a ring 21 on the back member 28 of the clip 25.
As shown in As will be understood, this construction will operate to maintain the tie in proper position while permittmg limited longitudinal movement of the same.
As in the construction hereinbefore described and illustrated in Figs. 1 to 10, the flexible retaining means, in this instance comprising separate chain members 26, is positioned at the back of the tie.
The modified construction illustrated in Fig. 12 is the same as that hereinbefore described except that instead of employing a lever type clip to attach the tie holder to the shirt, a clip 29 of the same construction as that shown in Figs. 4 to 7 is used for this purpose, the same being provided with a ring 30 -on the free end portion of its front member 3I which is slidably engaged by the flexible chain member 32. In this view, 33 designates the tie engaging clips, each connected with one end of the exible chain. v,
,In Fig. 13 is illustrated another modified form` of clip for attaching the tie holder to the shirt. This clip designated 34 is of the frictional spring type. It has a ring 35 at the free end of its 'front member 36, the clip with the ring 35 being constructed from a continuous piece of wire. this view, 31 designates the pair of tie engaging clips and 38 is the flexible chain member extend ing through and slidably engaging the ring 35 on the front member 36 of the clip.
In Figs. 14 and 15 is shown another form of' attaching means for securing the tie holder to a shirt. This consists of a wire loop member 39 having a narrow portion 40 and an enlarged portion 4I forming a substantially keyhole shaped opening, the loop member being adapted-to be detachably engaged with a button 42 on the shirt 4'I as shown in Fig. 14. On the lower end of the enlarged portion 4I of this loop member is a ring 43 with which the chain member 44 slidably enages. clip members engaged with a side edge portion of a necktie designated 46.
What I claim is:
A necktie holder including an elongated clasp attachable to the front marginal 'edge of a shirt to extend transversely thereof and having a. front bar and a rear clamping member, the front bar of the clasp having a ring thereon extending outwardly from its front face and disposed transversely thereof, a exible chain member of a length less than the width of the widest portion of the outer fold of the necktie, said chain member extending through and being freely slidable in the ring on the front bar of the shirt clasp. a pair of clips. each of said clips comprising elongated front and back members connected together at opposing end portions thereof, theback ible connection between the clips attached to;
either marginal side portion of the depending fold of the necktie and the clasp attached to the 1 shirt front. and the exible chain member being of a length to maintain the folds of the necktle i in position while allowing for limited movement .L
