IMPROVEMENT IN QAG HOLDERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,435, dated March 30, 1875; application filed July 20, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MrcHEAL OLSON, of Eau Claire, in the county of Eau Claire and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a specification:

My invention consists in a novel combinanation and arrangement, as hereinafter described, of a supporting head and an encircling band, supported by arms, links, and a hand-lever to tighten and hold the band.

In the drawings, A represents a spout or conductor, through which the grain is delivered into the bags. This spout may be connected with a bin, granary, wagon, car, or other receptacle in which grain is stored; or it may be provided with a hopper and supported on legs or on a light frame, so that it may be readily transported from place to place, as required. The lower end or mouth of the spout Ais provided with an outside circular head or flange, a, the lower edge of which is curved outward, as shown at b, Fig. 2. Around the head a there is arranged a band or belt, 13, which is suspended in place by a springarm, 0, attached to the back, and two straps, (I, attached to the sides of the spout A, as shown in both figures. To one endof the band B there is attached a link or stirrup, 0, having on its outer face two hooks or shoulders, e, as shown. To the other end of the band B there is attached a link, D, in the free end of which there is pivoted a hand-lever, E. This lever is pivoted at or near its middle, and its inner end is provided with lateral studs or pins f, to engage under the hooks e of link 0.

In using the device, the mouth of the bag is slipped upward over and around the head or flange a, the band B drawn up around the outside of the bag, and then the studs f of the hand-lever engaged under the hooks e of link 0, as shown in Fig. 1, and the lever folded down, as shown in dotted lines. The movement of the lever hugs the band tightly around the outside of the bag, and secures the latter tightly to the spout. The parts are so arranged that the lever locks past the center, so that it is held and prevented from unlock- -ing by the strain of the band. Owing to the outward curvature b at the lower edge of the head a, the weight of the grain is prevented from drawingthe band ofl' over the lower edge, and the hold on the bag increased as the band is drawn down against the enlargement. In order that the band may be shortened up in case it stretches, it is made in two pieces, which are united by a buckle, G, as shown.

WVhile it is considered desirable to use the two links 0 and D, they are not absolutely necessary, as the lever may be attached directly to one end of the band, and its end arranged to en gage in any suitable manner with the other end of the band. The only requirements are that the lever shall be so arranged as to tighten the band and to look past the center.

By the combination of the head, the band, and the lever, I produce a bag-holder which is cheap, simple, and reliable, and which can be operated with great ease and quickness.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The combination of the spout A, having the head or flange a, the band B, sustained by the supports 0 d, the link 0, having hooks e, the link D, and the hand-lever E, all combined as shown.
