G. EBERT WEAPON Filed Dec. 18, 1925 WITNESSES INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented Jan. 11, 1927.
GUS EIBEBT, OF EGG HARBOR, NEW JERSEY.
WEAPON.
Application filed December 18, 1925.
An object of the present invention is to provide a combined revolver, knife and dagger assembled in such a manner that the weapon which they co-operatively form may be readily manipulated for the purpose of shooting, stabbing or delivering a cutting blow.
A further object of the invention is to provide a weapon of this character which will be of simple, practical construction, which will be rugged and durable in use, and which can be manufactured at a cost only slightly in excess of the cost of an ordinary revolver.
With the above noted and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims. The invention may be more fully understood from the following description in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein- Fig. 1 is a view in side elevation of a weapon embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
In forming a weapon constructed in accordance with the present invention. I may utilize any one of several standard makes of revolvers, the changes in the revolver construction being relatively slight. In the drawings the reference character 10 designates the barrel of a revolver, and the reference character 11, the handle thereof, in which a revolving cylinder 12 for feeding the shells is rotatably mounted on a pin 13. 14 designates a manually operable lever for effecting retraction of the pin 13 to move the cylinder 12 laterally when loading or cleaning the gun. The device may include a conventional trigger 15 and trigger guard 16, as well as a cooking piece 17. The firing pin mechanism, ejector mechanism, or step by step mechanism for rotating the cylinder 12, form no part of the present invention, and may be entirely conventional.
The present invention is more particularly concerned with the provision of a knife 18 integral both with the barrel 10 and with the handle 11. It will be noted that the Serial No. 76,231.
barrel is unusually elongated and integrall v connected with the knife 18 from its forward end to a point adjacent its rear end where the knife is cut away in stepped formation as at 19 and 20 to provide clearance for the pin 13 and lever 14. The knife is of appreciable thickness at the point where it joins the barrel, but is bevelled at 18 to define arazor-like cutting or cleaving edge 18*.
The knife is of appreciable width so that a relatively heavy cleaver is provided which may be conveniently manipulated by the usual handle of the revolver.
Forwardly of the knife 18, I mount a dagger or bayonet 21, the dagger being bifurcated at its rear end, providing a pair of arms 22 which straddle the front edge of the knife, and may either be riveted thereto as at 23, or detachably secured thereto.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that I have provided a weapon of manifold utility, either as a revolver, dagger or cleaver, and a weapon which is particularly useful in hand to hand warfare.
Various changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described, without departing from the invention. Hence I do not wish to limit myself to the details set forth, but shall consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A weapon including a revolver formed with an elongated barrel of substantially uniform width throughout its length, a knife integral with the lower side of the barrel, and sharpened to provide a cleaving edge, and a dagger riveted to the forward end of the knife.
2. A weapon including a revolver formed with an elongated barrel, a knife integral with the lower side of the barrel, and sharpened to provide a cleaving edge, and a dagger carried at the forward end of the knife, the rear end of the dagger being bifurcated to straddle the knife, and securing devices pass-ed through said bifurcations and the knife.
GUS EBERT.
