Description
Feb. 9, 1932. D. w. ZEHRUNG TOY PISTOL Filed Feb. 10, 1931 Patented Feb. 9, 1932 PATENT OFFICE DELBURN W. ZEHBUNG, F BEATRICE, NEBRASKA TOY PISTOL Application filed February 10, 1931. Serial No. 514,793.
This invention relates to toy pistols and the main object is to provide a device of this kind in a simple, ellicient and durable form.
Another object is to provide a toy pistol so constructed and assembled as to simulate very closely the appearance of agenuine firearm.
With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set 'l orth and claimed. reference being had to the accompanying drawin wherein Figure 1 is a side view of the pistol.
Figure 2 a longitudinal cross section through the pistol.
15 rolled to form the barrel and the rear portion left tint and extended radially from the barrel to term the butt plates. A slot 3 is provided. in the barrel from the front end of the butt plates forward to a point adjacent PM to the forward end of the barrel. The butt plates 52 are inset or in other words the space between the same is considerably less than the diameter of the barrel 1. A butt or spacing strip desi nated generally at 4 is provided,
the same having a cupped circular end piece ii at one end which is secured over the rear end 01'' the barrel 1, the said strip being then bent and formed as shown to outline a butt or hand grasp and trigger guard of the convcu' 'oral Lontormatiou as at 6 and 7, and being secured at its end 8 around pin 9 provided through the butt plates 2 adjacent their forward ends. The said butt plates are cut away at 10 adjacent their forward ends to provide an opening for the insertion of the finger within the trigger guard 7. Stocks 11 are secured on each side of the butt plates 2 and butt strip l by means of the screw 12 and nut 13 passed therethroingh the said stocks following the contour of the butt plates and strip in the manner shown.
A plunger 14 is slidably mounted within the barrel 1 and a stop or finger piece 15 is secured in the plunger near its forward end and extended through the slot 3 in the barrel whereby the outward or forward travel of the plunger is limited by the slot. A notch 16 is provided in the plunger 1 1 on its underside and slightly rearwardly of the stop 15. An expansive coil spring 17 is mounted in the barrel 1 and is braced between the rear end of the plunger 14 and the rear end piece 5 whereby the said plunger is normally forced forwardly in the barrel. A trigger 18 is provided, the same being pivotally mount ed at 19 between the butt plates 2 and extend-- ed downward from its pivot past the cut away portions 10 of the butt plates whereby it may be engaged and pulled rearwardly by a finger inserted within the trigger guard. The trigger 18 is extended forwardly and upwardly from its pivotal point 19 and is provided at its end with a catch or hook 20. A torsional coil spring 21 is coiled around a pin 22 passed through the butt plates 2 rean wardly of the trigger 18, one end 23 of the said spring being braced against the trigger and the other end 24: against a stop pin 25 whereby the trigger is normally pressed forwardly bringing the catch 20 into engage ment with the plunger 14.
In use the plunger 14 is pulled rearwardly in the barrel 1 against the tension of the spring 17 by means of the stop or finger piece 15 as will be understood. When the plunger is drawn back to a certain point the catch 20 engages the notch 16 to hold the plunger in that position. A marble (not shown) or any other suitable projectile is then placed in the barrel against the end of the plunger 14 and the trigger 18 pulled swinging the catch downward and allowing the spring 17 to propel the plunger forwardly sharply and with a considerable force. The projectile is of course shot from the barrel by this action.
lVhile I have herein set forth a certain preferred embodiment of my invention it is understood that I may vary from the same in minor structural details, not departing from the spirit of the invention and within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a device of the kind described, a tubular barrel having a longitudinally extended slot in its forward portion, inset spaced butt plates extended from the barrel at its rear portion, a butt strip formed to the shape of a pistol butt, a cupped end piece on one end of the strip and secured over the rear end of the barrel, the other end of the said strip being secured between the butt plates at their forward ends, stock secured on each side'of the butt plates and butt strip, a plunger slidably mounted in the barrel, a stop extended from the plunger out through the slot in the barrel, the said plunger having a notch rearward of the said stop, a coil spring seated in the barrel and braced between the rear end of the plunger and the rear end of the barrel, a spring set trigger pivotally mounted between the said butt plates, and a catch on the said trigger adapted to releasably engage the said notch in the plunger.
2. In a device of the kind described, a tubular barrel having a longitudinally extended slot in its forward portion, inset spaced butt plates extended radially from the barrel at its rear portion, a butt strip formed in simulation of a pistol butt and trigger guard, a circular end piece on one end of the butt strip and secured over the rear end of the barrel, the other end of the said butt strip being secured between the butt plates at their forward ends, stock secured over the butt plates and butt strip, a plunger slidably mounted in the barrel and spring set to normally move forwardly therein, a stop extended from the said plunger out through the slot in the said barrel, and means for releasably holding the said plunger in aset position.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
DELBURN W. ZEHRUNG. I
