APPLICATION FILED $55.21, 1921 Patented May 3, 1921.

TOY cam.
To all whom it may concern. Be it known that LRor FULLER, a citizen of. the United States, residing atISt. Paul 1n .the county of Ramsey and .State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Toy Gun, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to. toy pistols and the object is to (provide a novel, simple and easily operate device of said'class which is practically harmless and provides amusement for young and old in target practice.-
In the .drawmg: Figure l is a top view of the device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation on line 22 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a front end view of the pistol. Fig. 4 is a side view on a reduced scale to show more clearly the arrangement of the rubber. bands.
.. Fig. 5 is Fig. 4 with the arrangement of the rubber band or bands modified.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, 5 designates the stock or body of the pistol and may be made of iron, wood or other material and provided with a handle 6.
The barrel or bore .7 extends throughout the entire length of the body and upon the front portion of it is mounted a magazine 8 in which peas or similar projectiles 9 are placed. The top of the magazine is closed by a resilient arm 10 having one end looped at 11 for a headed pivot 12, and the other end bent upward to form a nail catch 13 by which to swing the arm on the pivot so as to open or close the magazine.
Slidable in the bore is a plunger or ejecting rod 14 having its rear end provided with a cross head 15 having a groove 16 and made a little wider than the thickness of the stock so that there will be clearances 17 betweenthe stock and the two strands of an endless rubber band 18 by whichthe ejector rod is operated; said band engaging in a groove 16 in head 15 and a groove or notch 20 in the front end of the stock.
Slidable in a channel21 in the lower part of the stock, in which it has some vertical play, is a trigger bar 22 carrying a trigger 23 which pro ects downwardly through a slot 24 in the stock and is at all times im pelled-upwardly and forwardly by an endless rubber band 25 (see Fig. 4) engaging a.notch 26 in the upper part of the front end of'the stock and the rear side of the trigger and is held fairly clear of sides Specification of Letters Patent.

of the stock by resting in notches 27 in lateral projections 28 on the trigger. Said trlgger bar 22 has its top side provided with a short embossmentor rib 29 slidable in a narrow slit 30 in the stock ready tqengage wlth its angular ends the angular terminals of a notch 31 in the lower side of the ejector rod 14.- The rear end of the trigger bar is formed with an incline 32 (see Fig. 2) adapted to engage a fixed pin 33 and thereby disengage the tri ger bar from the notch 31 at the moment o firing.
In the operation of the device, after the magazine 8 has been loaded the operator holding the handle 6 in the hand pulls thetrigger 23 rearwardly'by the forefinger of the same hand holding the handle; this pulling retracting the trigger and the ejector rod 14 until the front end of the latter perinto the barrel 7. Further pulling of the trigger brings the incline 32 against pin 33 and disengages the trigger bar from the ejector rod, allowing the latter to be thrown forward by theband 18 and thereby toshoot the bullet a considerable distance through the air. As soon as the pulling on the trigger is released the rubber band 25 will restore the trigger rod to engaged position with the notch 31 in ejector rod- 14 and thus the pistol is ready for thenext pull at the tri ger.
n the modification Fig. 5 the rubber bands are only one endless band forming the strands 18 and 25 at each side of the stock. To enable strand 25 to increase the shooting force of strand 18 the band is movable over a roller 34 rotatingon a stud 35, the arrangement shown in Fig. 5 being of course the same on both sides of the pistol. If the gun is one of considerable length and strong force the strand 25 may be an inelastic cord secured at 36 to a very strong elastic band 18".
In the manufacture of the pistol the same may have its main body formed of a right and a left half divided centrally and secured together by screws or in a cheaper grade by rivets 37. This is especially convenient when the pistol is made of wood, since the bore 7 and channels 21 and slots 24.- and 30 may then be planed or milled out cheaply half and half in each part before the parts are secured together. Theplunger 14 may 110 have the top side of its frontend slightly beveled as at 19 sothat when a small bullet mits one bullet 9 to pass from the magazine V pus a a I 1,376,867
is crowded by a larger one, that part of the of the trigger bar, elastic means for holdlar er bullet projecting into the bore will be ing said trig r bar normally upward and 25 ied back by bevel 19 when the firing forward, an automatic means for disentakes place. p v gaging itfrom the ejector bar when pulled What I claim 1s: to firing pOSltiOll, and a, magazine arranged 1. In a am of the class described, a stock to automatically feed bullets into the barrel having a tire length to form a barrel and having belatter isretracted.
low said barrel a longitudinal channel with 2. The Structure specified in claim 1, and
. rear end a notched head adapted to stop 3. The structure's'pecified in claim 1, said an upward slit extending the bore and means for holding the elastic elements clear a downward slit for a trlgger, an ejector of the sides of the stock to prevent chafing rod 'slidable in the barrel and having at its and friction. 35
agalnst the rear end ofthe stock, a rubber magazine compris' a vertical tube fixed e cord engaging in the notch of the head and upon. the top of the barrel and opening into extending at both sides of the stock and atthe same, and having a pivoted swingable extending throughout its enin front of the ejector rod whenever thef 30 I tached to the front end of it, said rod having keeper upon its top to prevent escape of the 4b in its lower side a notch; a trigger movable bullets.
- in-the lower slit and having a rod slidable 4. The structure specified in claim 1, said wardly and to limit the forwardmov'ement 7 ROY in the channel with some vertical play thereejector rod having the 'top side of its front in, and provided with a lug arranged to enend beveled, for the purpose set forth.
