TOY BOAT.
Application filed May 26, 1925. Serial No. 33,055.
This invention relates to a miniature boatL and while it is especially ada ted for use in connection with Christmas'displays, it will be seen that it is also capable of use for advertising and other' purposes.
Briefly stated, an important object is to provide a miniature boat having novel means whereby the'same may be rocked or moved back and forth to imitate a boat at sea. A further aim of the invention is to provide aminiature boat having a number of features such as a smoke-stack to give 0H real smoke, a' steam whistle', ladders, marine lights, a pilot house, all of which contribute 'to the production of a' toy which may be used at Christmas time or any time desired and with advertising.
A further object of the invention is to provide a toy boat of the character specified which may be used as a source of pleasure to both the young and old.
Other objects and advantageswill be apparent during the following descri tion.
In the accompanying drawing orming a part of this application and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure l1 is a side elevation of the improved toy, parts being in section;
Fig. 2 is avertical transverse'sectional view through the improved toy, the view being taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
In the drawiing, wherein for the purpose of illustration lis shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 desig natcs 'a hull which may, of course, be made of' any suitable material and at this point it is desired to state that while certain matcrials maybe preferred for some parts of the invention, other materials are suitable for use in this connection and I do not wish to be restricted to the use of any particular materials. The hull 5 may be provided with a lat bottom of wood, paper, or the like, having a transversely curved upper portion 7 of wood, stout cardboard, av composition material, or the like, which may or may not be covered with a colored or figured paper.
The cradle 10 is provided with a pair of rockers 11 mounted upon a support 12. Figsfl and 2 illustrate that the rockers 11 are mounted between a pair of spaced parallel guideways 14 by means of which the rockers are heid against lateral movement. The support 12 is in the nature of a housing for an electric or other motor 16 which drives a wheel 18 through the medium of a belt 20, or the like. Attention is directed to Fig. 1 which shows that the wheel 18 is provided with a laterally projecting drive pin 22 which extends through a slot in one end of a lever 24. The lever 24 is fulcrumed to a. bracket 26 and the outer end of the lever has connection with a link 28, the upper end of which is connected as indicated at 30 to the forward portion of the hull.- It is thus seen that the operation of the electric motor 16 will result in the rocking of the hull 5 to give the hull the appearance of a. boat at sea. A suitably corrugated paper or other body 34 islocated on opposite sides `of the hull to represent rough water.
.In carrying out the invention the electric motor 16 may be provided with current from any source and a transformer 36 may be employed if necessary or expedient.
Fig. 1 illustrates that a cabin 38 is 'mounted on the hull and more specifically, upper and lower tiers ofstaterooms or cabins 38 are mounted upon the hull. or pilot house 40 is mounted upon the cabin 38 and one or more figures representing Santa Claus may be located within the observation or pilot house 40.
Figs. 2 and 3 illustrate that a small boiler 50 may be located upon the hull immediately above or in operative relation to burner will travel through a whistle 52 to give a whistling sound. At one side of the boiler is located a firebox 53 in which charcoal and incense may be burned. to give off `rcal smoke through a smokestack 54. The firebox is rovided with a fire door 56 by means of which the supply of plenished. `Fig. 3 shows that air inlet openings 58 are located in the side or other convenient place in the firebox.
In carrying out the invention, the front and rearmasts 60 may be of wood which are preferably colored with greenpaper. The masts may support one or more rows of electric lights 62 and these electric lights may extend beyond the mas and to the hull as illustrated in Fig.l 1. The improved lboat may also be provided with marine lights 63 at an place desired and of any color or degree o brightness.
An observation a burner 51 of any type and the steam created by the fuel may be re-l Suitable ornamental ropes of silver or thel like are designated by the numeral 68 and may be connected to the masts or other parts of the boat.
Also the improved boat may be provided with Christmas birds 70 locatedat various places, and with ladders 64 having sides of silver rope or the like.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A miniaure boat comprising a hull, a cradle supporting the hull and having a pair of rockers, a housing having a fiat surface supporting 'the rockers, alink connected to the hull, a lever connected to the link and having a slotted end, and a power wheel having a drive member extended through lthe slotted end of said lever whereby to Lawaai wheel within said housing.
3. `A miniature boat comprising va hull, a
cradle supporting the hull and having a pair of rockers, a housing having a lat surface supporting the rockers, a link connected to the hull, a lever connected to' the link and having a slotted end, a power wheel having 'a drive member extended through the slotyted end of said lever whereby to rock the boat, and a power unit for operating .the wheel within said housing, said supportlng housing being provided with means limiting v the lateral movement of said rockers.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature.
GEORGE CHURUS.
