SOAP-FLAKING DEVICE,
Application filed March 9, 1925. Serial No. 14,222.
This invention relates to improvements in soap flaking devices and containers therefor.
Some of the objects of the invention are: to adapt for household use, the principle of the plane-edge in producing soap flakes by hand; to enable the luser in asingle operation to produce from bar soap, a flaky soap and to pack the same automatically; to utilize the container part of the device as a receptacle for the soap flakes during the process of forming the same; and to control the sifting of the flakes from the container when dispensing the contents therefrom.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claim, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a perspective view of my invention showing in dotted lines the closure member in open position.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view on the line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure t is a detail vertical sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Refering more particularly to the drawing, the reference numeral 10 desiginates a box like metallic container having at least one of its side walls 11 provided with grating or shredding elements 12. The grating elements are punched from the side wall 11 by slitting the wall horizontally and then pressing the material outwardly to form a substantially cupped shaped element. The elements 12 may be of varying sizes, that is, either coarse or fine depending upon the size of the flakes to be formed. vWhile I have only shown one side wall provided with a grating surface, it will be readily understood that all side walls may be similarly formed with grating elements of various sizes whereby different size flakes may be manufactured.
One of the side walls adjacent the wall 11 is formed with an opening 13, through which a closure member or panel 14 is adapted to pass, The top and bottom walls of the receptacle are formed with grooves 15 to provide a track over which the panel is adapted to slide in its movement for sealing the openings formed by the grating elements when it is desired to dispense the contents of the receptacle, and for establishing communication between the grating surface and the interior of the container. T he panel (lf-l serves as a valve for establishing and diS- establishing communication between the grating surface and the interior of the receptacle, and although I have shown a sliding member for this purpose, it will be readily appreciated that an outside lid or various other means might be provided for performing the same function. 1ct is formed with a manipulating portion 16 for permitting the same to be controlled loy the lingers of the hand when actuating the panel.
F rom the description thus far, it will be seenvthat when the panel 14 is moved to the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 1 of the drawing and a bar of soap is passed over the grating surface, the flakes cut therefrom by the grating members will collect within the container. When the container has been sufficiently filled, the panel is moved to a closed position and the contents of the container are ready to be dispensed for use.
For dispensing the flakes, there is provided an opening 17 in the top wall of the receptacle adjacent one corner thereof, and which is normally closed by a lid, panel or the like closure member 1S and having av manipulating knob 19 movable in a slot 2() in the top. The ylid 18 is adjustable with respect to thc walls of the opening to regulate the size of the discharge opening to control the Hakes of the contents therefrom when the receptacle has been inverted for dispensing purposes. While the lid is shown as slidable over the opening, I wish it to bc understood that the same may be hinged without, in any way departing from the the spirit of my invention.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have constructed a device where- The panel by a bar of soap may be chipped or shaved j mounted in Suid receptacle behind Said gratl ing Surface for sealing the suine with respect to the interior of said receptacle after the Substance has been grated, and an outlet provided in the top Wall o seid receptacle through which the contents of said receptucle are discharged upon the inverting of the suine.
In. testimony whereof I have affixed my 20 signature. n
