Description

`B GROZOW Dec. 28 1926f KEY HOLDER Filed July 31, 1922 #a ATTORNEY Cil Patented Dec. 28, 1926.
UNITED STATES BEN GROZOW, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
KEY HOLDER.
Application filed July 31, 1922. Serial No. 579,314.
key holders.
It relates particularly to the type of key holder provided with a folding case into and out of which the keys are adapted to be swung.
The object of my invention is to provide in a key holder of the kind described novel means of attaching the keys to the case, which is simple, cheap, durable, not liable to get out of order and which will permit the free turning of a key without turning with it the case.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invent-ion,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my improved key holder, the case being shown in the open position, some of the key engaging members being omitted, and one of the key engaging members together with its key being shown in the operative position.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an upper end view of my improved key holder, showing the case closed and fastened and the key engaging members disposed in the case.
Similar reference characters designate similar parts in the different views.
1 designates the body of the case, preferably of flexible material, such as leather, and
having two aps 2 and 3, adapted to be swung from the open position shown in Fig. 1 to a closed overlapping position, as shown in Fig. 3.
A ny suitable means for fastening together the flaps 2 and 3 may be provided, such as knob and socket glove fastener members 4 and 5 respectively secured to the flaps 2 and 3.
Upon the inner side of the body 1 adjacent to one end thereof, and co-cxtensive only with a relatively small portion of the length of the body, is secured, as by two eyelets 6, a narrow Hat plate 7, the outer edge of which is spaced apart from the body 1. The plate 7 adjacent to its outer edge is provided with a row of holes 8 in which are respectively extended rings 9 of a plurality ef ring members which encircle the outer edge of the plate 7, and each of which is provided with a socket 10 in which is swiveled on a longitudinal axis a head 11 at the inner end of the stem 12 of a key engaging member, which may be provided with a hook 13 adapted to be extended through a trans,- verse hole 14, of a key 15.
For preventing the key 15 being accidentally detached from the hook 13, there is provided a tongue 16 which is pivoted on a transverse pin 17, Fig. 2, which extends through the stem 12. The latter is provided with a longitudinal recess 18 in which is mounted a coil spring 19, the outer end of which bears against a lateral arm 20, at the inner end of the tongue 16.
Each ring member may be swung from a position in the case to a position in which it and its attached key 15 will extend outside of the case. In the latter position, the key 15 together with the key engaging member, owing to its swivel connection with the adjacent ring member 9 may be revolved on its longitudinal axis with respect to the case 1. After a key has been used, it with its supporting key engaging member may be swung with the ring member 9 on the plate 7 to a position inside of the case, after which the flaps 2 and 3 may be fastened together. as shown in Fig. 3. By having a narrow plate 7 co-extensive only with a relatively small portion of the length of the body 1, 'the latter, throughout the greater port-ion of its length, can be squeezed or roll-ed together to fit the hand, thereby enabling the latter to more easily turn a key in the lock.
I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as modifications of my invention, within the scope of the appended claim, may be made without depart ing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim is A key holder comprising a case having a flexible body, a narrow flat plate fastened to the inner side and adjacent to one end of the body and co-extensive only with a relatively small portion of the length of the lat ter and provided with a transverse hole adjacent to the outer edge thereof, a ring extending through and loosely and revolubly fitted and laterally oscillatable in said holeJ and a key holder swiveled to said ring.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
