P. M. CLEVENGER POCKET KEY CARRIER Filed Sept. 1922 Irma/i701;
Patented Aug. ll, 1925,
PEARLY M. CLEVENGER, OEF SOUTH ENGLEIWOOD, MISSOll', ASSIGNOR T0 VICTOR I.
' PHILLIPS, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
POCKET KEY CARRIER.
Application filed September 18, 1922. Serial No. 588,831.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PEARLY M. CLEVENGER,
a citizen of the United States, and resident of South Englewood, county of Jackson,
State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Pocket Key Carriers, of which the following is a complete specification. v
This invention relates to pocket key car- 'riers of that class in whichthe keys are enclosed by a leather case, and moreespecially to carriers wherein each key can be rotated independently of the other keys and the case, and myobject is to produce an efiicient key carrier of this character which I is of simple, strong, durable and inexpensive ;had to the construction. a
To this end, the invention consists in certain novel and useful features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter described and claimed; ,and in order that it may be fully understood, reference is to. be
accompanying drawing, in Wl'll()l12".-
Figure-l is a perspective view of a. key carrier embodying the invention, with the case open and one of the keys extracted therefrom and ready for use;
Figure 2 is a top plan View of the device in closed condition; a Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical section Q taken on the line 111-111 df Figure 1;
'lV-IV of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a, detail perspective view of the anchoring plate of the device; and
Figure 6 is an enlarged elevation to show the connection between the key hook or clamp and the chain for suspension from the anchoring plate. I 4
Referring to the drawing in detail, 1 indicates a key case preferably flexible and of leather, and consisting of abody portion and two foldable portions or flaps 2 and 3 adapted when folded over the body portion and overlapping each other" to; be fastened together by the conventional snap button clasp, or any equivalent device.
Arranged against the inner side and near thefnpp'er end of the body portion is atmetal holder plate 4, the same being secured in place by suitable rivets 5 or the like. Said plate is formed near its upper edge and parallel therewith with a semi-cylindrical or outwardly-bowed portion 6, and is provided in said portion and in the upper edge with a series of transverse kerfs 7 Arranged in pndwise aline-ment within the semi-cylin drical portion 6 and adapted for pivotal or rocking operation, therein in transverse planes, are hollow pins or heads 8, and extending through the kerfs and into said pins or heads respectively, are the links 9 of a series of chains, the alternate links being of spherical form as at 10 and capable'pf turning or rotating on and transversely of the links 9'. The uppermost links are provided with heads 11 within the hollow pins or heads 8 as shown most clearly by Figures 3 and 4, andare incapable of swivel movement therein, it being noted how ever that all of the members or links 10 are capable of swiveling or turning on the links 9 to which they are respectively attached, so that the respective keys hereinafter identified, are capable of rotation in dependently of each other and of the case and .holderplate 4.
' A snap hook 12 or the like is adapted for use with each of the flexible swivel chains ,above described, and each snap hook is provided' at its upper end with a loop 13 fitting around the bottom link 10 of its respective chain, the loop being slotted as at 14 to accommodate pivotal movement of the hook y 1 relative to the end of its respective chain. Figure 4 is a sectlon taken on the line use, the case is opened and the particular key extracted from the case as indicated in Figure 1, the respective head or pin 8 turning in the cylindricalportion 6 of plate 4 to permit the partsto be arranged as above referred to. The key-can now be inserted in a lock and't-urned or rotated freely and entirely independent of the case and plate 4:, as'the chain members 9 and 10 have relative 'rotative action and eliminate the necessity for having the chain bear a swivel relation to the plate 4 at the point of connection therewith.
' From the above description it will be apparent that the device embodies the features of invention set forth as desirable in the statement of the object of the invention, and that it may be modified in minor particulars without departing from the principle of uppermost pin construction and inode of operation involved or from the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
said kerfs respectively, cylindrical heads within the said cylindrical portion of the holder late and secured to the said uppermost plnlinks of the-chains respectively, and snap hooks having circular slotted heads for swivel and pivotal movement in it slingle plane with the terminal spherical In witness whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
