HALF LAP FOR COMBINGTEXTILEFIBEBSJ Application filed August 6, 192a ser a no. lessees.
This invention relates to'the art of combing yarn, and isparticu'larly concerned with V the construction and arrangement of thesocalled half laps which constitute the comb- 5-ing elements of acombing machine toupull or combout the short fibers from the staple, and at the same time lay-the remammg fibers lengthwise in parallelism with one another.
7 series of separate, sections secured to a half} round shell or: base, each section carrying-v a row of spaced needles pro ectmg outwards 151 lyjbey0nd the peripheral face'zof its supporting section. Such a construction, hoW- ever,,entails'serious practical difiiculties. If
one row ofineedles in the forward part of the combbe injured all the sections to. the 2 rearward must be removed to permit the re- .Inovaland replacement 7 of the imperfect.

volving supportings'haft or shell? v In the process of I manufacture, the outer or peripheral surface4,=ofthe supporting member 1," is described on a circle that is," slightly eccentricto the-axis of rotation. In
the needle-carrying barslthat no cracks or crevices are found in the completed halflap for the lodgement or adhesion of lint. Other features relate to the means for supporting and securing the needles in place, all of which will be described in detail in the following specification and Will finedinthe annexed claims.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated different forms of constructionand arrangement"embodyinglthe principles 7 of this invention, ina'which:
Figure 1 isianend elevation of ahalf-lap Y constructed according to this invention and secured to its revolving support.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section through said half-lap on theplane of the forward, wall of the comb-retaining slot, showing;' the means for fastening the comb-baror element in place.

,Figure 6' is a longitudinal section through v 1 the half-lap shown in'Figure 5, ona'; plane With theseobj'ects in view-: I provide fa half-lap construction comprising successive .rows' of spaced needles-firmly supported bycoincident'witha front wall of one of the comb-retaining slot o v @In the'practice of this invention," accord segment of-a hollow cylinder which arcuate bed member 1s formed withyits inner surface 2, concentric with the axis of its revolution, d

The cutting of these slots leaves a series of longitudii alf peripheral ribs 5, whose front and rear walls form the boundary of' twosuccessive slots. The comb elementcomp-rises flat bar 6-, rabbeted at its forwardandouter edge to form ashal-low channel for the reception ofilla? need' les which are 'pl ace'd side by side along that portion of the bar with their outer ends uniformly spaced apart, the needles being-soldered tof'the thin part of tl1=ebar (5', to securetl ie-min paral lelism on bar. 7 I are so dimensioned that the points oi all needles in each row, as Well as all the rows of needles, are equidistant from the axial cente-r of rotation.
