Description

J. S. WRIGHT De'c. 7 1926.
COLLAR Filed March 28, 1923 @y DI "VW Patented Een. 7, 1926.
JAMES STANLEY WRIGHT,
PATENT QFFICE.
OF PINEVILLE, KENTUCKY.
COLLAR.
Application filed March 28. 1923.
rThis invention relates to collars of the turn-down type, and more particularly to a turn-down collar equipped at the back thereof with a tab applied to the inner fold of the collar for receiving` the shank of the collar button to facilitate buttoning the collar, and also to prevent undue projection of the. head of the collar button into the tie space between the folds in a manner tending to injure the tie and to hinder the free sliding thereof. Collars have heretofore been provided with tabs for this purpose, but so far as known to me the construction has been such as to cause t-he head of the collar but-ton, which is inserted through the buttonhole of the tab to press against the inner fol-d of the collar, thus causing a pressure against this fold which reacts against the neck of t-he wearer, i. e., by causing the collar button to be projected too far inward, and also effectually closing the tie space between the inner and outer folds of the collar and seriously interfering with the free sliding movementof the tie. In accordance with my invention I provide a collar with a tab at the back of the inner fold thereof, equipped with a buttonhole to receive the head of the collar button, and in conjunction therewith I provide a hole or clearance opening in the inner fold of the collar at the locality of the buttonhole in the tab and of suiiicient size to receive the head of the collar button. "Ihe foregoing and other objects and advantages of the invention will more fully 'appear from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying` drawings, and the distinctive features of novelty will be pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a collar equipped with the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a side view thereof with the rear portion of the collar broken away in vertical section to illustrate the invention, a portion of the neck band of the shirt also being shown in section.
indicates a collar which may be of any suitable turn-down type or style with an outer fold 10a, and an inner fold 10b. In carrying out my invention I provide a tab 11, which is secured by stitching along its Serial No. 628,201.
upper edge to the inner fold of the collar as indicated at 12. The depending lower portion of this tab is provided with a buttonhole 13 to receive the shank of the collar but-ton B. The inner fold 10b of the collar is formed with an opening 14, opposite and at the locality of the buttonhole 13 and of a dimension to receive and afford clearance for the head It of the collar button B. With this provision the head 7L of the collar button may thus be located substantially, in the plane of the inner fold 10b of the collar, 'instead of impinging on and being pressed inward from the inner surface of such fold, as would be the case were the clearance opening' 14 not provided. This results in permitting a substantial range of self adjustment and accommodation of the button thru the collar, and so that the head I-I thereof either lies in the plane of the inner collar fold, or is pressed inward therethru against the cravat, instead of being hel-d inward to press against the inner side of the inner fold as would be th-e case were. the opening 14 not provided. The button is thus permitted to recede outward and away from the neck of the wearer to the greatest possible extent, and at the saine time does not cause a pressure upon the inner fold of the collar to hinder the adjustment of the tie around the collar. I have found that by thus affording clearance for the head of the collar button in such an `opening of the inner fold of the collar, that even ties of extra heavy material may be drawn around the collar without difficulty and also that all annoying pressure inward against the neck of the wearer is relieved. I ldo not desire to be limited to precise structural details herein shown and hence desire the present embodiment to be considered as illustrative and not restrictive, reference being had to the appended claims rather than to the foregoing Vdescription to indicate the scope of the invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A turn-down collar having a tab applied to the back of the inner fold thereof, said tab having a buttonhole to receive the shank of a collar button, and the inner fold of the collar having an opening'in registry with euch buttonhole oi* a size surieient to receive and afford clearance 'for the head of the collar button.
2. A turn-down Collar having a y tab :stitched et i's upper edge to the inner fold of' the collar and with a depending portion provided with e buttonhole to receive the Shank of a collar button, and the inner 'fold of the collar being provided with a Clearance space in registry with such buttonhoie o a dimension suHieient to receive the head of he Collar butt-on.
En estiniony whereof, I have signed my naine to this sspeeiieation.
JAMES STANLEY WR GHT.
