FURNACE ATTACHMENT.
Application filed May 19, 1926 The inven'tio'nrelates to furnace attachments and has for its object to provide a supporting bracket whereby the lower end of a downwardly extending radiator carried 5 by the furnace will be supported and maintained in adjusted spaced relation to the furnace drum and to exact measurements, thereby preventing the reduction of the air space between the radiator and drum incident to i inward movement or creeping of the lower end of the radiator.
A further object is to end of the bracket with an inwardly and outwardly adjustable 11161 081 by means of which the lower end of the radiator may be held in various positions in relation to the furnace drum and the bracket with an upwardly and downwardly adjustable member whereby the bracket may be adjusted to vat-LJ rious sizes of drums and furnaces.
A. further object is to provide in combination with a furnace drum disposed within an annular base ring to one side of the center thereof and connected to one side of the base ring, a downwardly extending radiator carried by the drum, a bracket secured to the drum, said bracket being provided with means cooperating with the lower end of the radiator for maintaining the same in" adjnsted spaced relation to the drum, said bracket being anchoredto tl e base ring, and also forms means for bracing the base ring in relation to'the drum.
A further object is to provide the bracket with an outwardly and inwardly adjustable arm anchored to the base ring and an outwardly and inwardly adjustable member adapted to engage the radiator, said last named adjustable member being carried by an an upwardly and downwardly adjustable member, and all of said adjustments allowing the bracket to be applied to diiferent sizes of furnaces.
l 'i ith the above and other objects in view is the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it beingunderstood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention so may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings the numeral 1 designates the drum of a conventional form of furnace, 2 a pipe extending re'arwardly from the upper side thereof and 3 a downwardly extending radiator carried by the pipe 2, all of which is conventional furnace structure. It has been found that the lower Gear of the radiator moves inwardly towards 7o the'drum, thereby reducing the air space 5 between the drum and radiator, and to ob viate this difliculty the bracket A is provided. The forward side of the drum 1 is provided with a conventional form of ash pit frame 6 having a door 7, and which frame is provided with a downwardly extending flange 8 which is connected at 9 to the vertical flange 10 of the base ring 11. It will be noted that the 0 axis of the drum 1 is to one side of the axis of the base ring 11, and the bracket A is interposed between the rear side of the drum 1 and the rear side of the base ring 11, and braces said drum and base ring and maintains the drum in its proper relation to the base ring '11 and against side movement, therefore relieving side twisting strain on the flange 8.
The bracket A comprises a vertically disposed member 12 which is secured to the rear side of the drum 1 by. means of bolts 13, and secured to the member 12 by means of bolts 14 is a plate 15 which is in a vertical plane. The plate 15, at its lower end is provided with a horizontally disposed channcl 16 in which is slidably mounted an outwardly extending arm 17. The arm 17 has its outer end secured at 18 to the flange 10 of the base ring 11, and is adjustably connected to the channeled member 16 by means of a bolt 19 carried thereby and which bolt extends through an elongated slot 20 in the channeled member 16. There-- fore it will be seen that the arm 17 may be adjusted outwardly or inwardly according to the diameter of the base 11 and the diameter of the drum 1, which vary according to the size or type of furnace. Therefore it will be seen the same bracket may lie be used for various size furnaces. Channeled member 16 is bracedby a downwardly and outwardly extending brace arm 21 carried by the plate 15, therefore it will be seen the channeled member 16 is rigidly braced in relation to the plate and at hold the bar 24 in any adjusted position in relation to the plate and according to the elevation of the lower end a of the radiator 3, and the interengaged ribs 22 and 23 will prevent a pivotal action of the bracket 25 and will maintain the horizontally disposed arm 29 thereof in horizontal position at all times. In applying the device the bracket as a whole is secured to the drum 1, the arm 17 adjusted outwardly into engagement with the base ring and secured thereto, and then the bolt 19 is tightened. After the above operation the bracket 25 is adjusted upwardly into engagement with the lower end of the radiator 3 after it has been properlv positioned in relation to the drum 1. and then the bolt 28 is tightened.
After the adjustment of the bracket 25 the upwardly extending member 30 is adjusted outwardly into engagement with the inner side of tht radiator 3 as at 31, and then the bolt 32, which is carried by the member 30 and extends through the elongated slot 33 in the arm 29, is tightened, therefore it will be seen the member 30 will positively maintain the lower end of the radiator 3 in its proper adjusted position in relation to the drum 1 at all times, and inward movement of the lower end 4 of the radiator 3, which would reduce the air space 5 is positively prevented. It will also be seen that the same bracket may be used in connection with various sizes of furnaces of this character through the medium of its adjustable parts, therefore the expense of making different sizes of brackets is obviated and at the same time the fitting of brackets formed from single pieces of material is obviated, which brackets would require considerable labor in fitting incident to variations in manufacture of furnaces.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 1. The combination with a furnace drum disposed within a base ring adjacent one side thereof and anchored to said base ring, and the lower end of a radiator carried by the drum and in spaced relation to the drum, of a brace member carried by the drum, a vertically adjustable bracketcarried by the brace member and engaging the radiator end, a horizontally disposed adjustable member carried by the vertically adjustable bracket and engaging the inner side of the radiator end and an outwardly adjustable arm carried by the brace member and anchored to the base ring.
The combination with a furnace drum carried by and disposed Within a base ring and provided with a downwardly extending radiator, of a brace bracket carried by the drum, said base bracket comprising a plate, an outwardly adjustable arm carried by said plate and anchored to the base ring, a vertically adjustable bracket car ried by said plate, means for connecting said bracket and plate together, interengaged ribs carried by the plate and bracket, an arm carried by the bracket and engaging the lower ends of the radiator and an outwardly and inwardly adjustable member carried by said arm and engaging the inner side of the radiator end.
3. The combination with a furnace drum' disposed within a base ring adjacent one side thereof and anchored to said base ring, and the lower end of a radiator carried by the drum and in spaced relation thereto, of a brace member carried by the drum, a vertically adjustable bracket carried by the brace member and engaging the radiator end, a horizontally disposed. adjustable member carried by the vertically adjustable bracket and engaging the radiator end and an outwardly adjustable arm carried by the brace member and anchored to the base ring.
