OLSON BARREL SUPPORT Filed May 7. 1924 wumtop Patented Feb. 10, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

BARREL SUPPORT.
Application filed May 7,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 'I, ALFRED Orson, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Clark, in thecounty of Clark and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useends thereof, and a pair of angular arranged supporting arms adjacent said wheels and connected to said axle at one end provided with barrel engaging hooks at the other end, corresponding arms at each end of the axlebeing arranged in parallel spaced relation, and secured in such relation by suitable cross bars adjacent the hooked ends of the arms, a U-shaped supporting bracket being mounted on one of said arms and adapted to rest on the supporting surface of the barrel support, for cooperation with the wheels in supporting a barrel in said supporting arms, means being provided for adjusting the angular relation of the supportin arms, and connecting links being provided between the axle and the supporting bracket for holding said bracket in spaced relation with the axle, said connecting arm also cooperating with the supporting arm at the axle, for holding the wheels in rotatable spaced relation on said axle.
The invention comprehends other objects and improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of parts, which are more particularly pointed out in the following description and claim, directed to a preferred form of the invention, it being understood, however, that variations maybe made in the arrangement and formation of the parts, without departing from the spirit and scope of the following description and claim.
In the drawing, forming a part of this application Figure 1 is a side elevation of the barrel support, showing the manner of supporting the barrel thereon.
Figure 2 is a plan view of said barrel support.
Figure 3 is a front elevation thereof.
Figure 4 is a detail view, showing the 1924. Serial No. 711,668.
manner of securing a cross bar to the sup-v porting arm.
This invention relates more specifically to improvements over the co-pending application, Serial No. 677,725, filed November 30, 1923, and which improvements will be: apparent during the course of the following description.
The improved barrel support includes an axle 1 provided. at the endportions thereof with wheels 2, on which said support is,
adapted to be wheeled, in an obvious manner. A pair of angularly arranged supporting arms 3 and 4 are connected at one end to the axle 1, inwardly of the wheels 2, as clearly indicated in Figure 2, and. ex-
tend in angular relation upwardly from said axle, in a manner clearly illustrated in Figure 1, the outer ends of said supporting arms being formed with barrel engaging hooks 5.. It willbe noted that the arms 3, j
at opposite ends of the axle are arrangedin parallel spaced relation, and connected by Suitable cross bars (5, having reduced ends 7, extending through openings 8, in the outer end portions of said arms, and headed, as indicated at 9, for holding the outer free end of the parallel supporting arms 3 and 4 respectively, in proper spaced relation. These cross bars also provide a means for aiding in the support of the barrel B, the lower edge of which is adapted to rest on said bars. Adjusting rods are indicated at 10, for each pair of angular-1y arranged arms 3 and 4, having one end offset, as at 11, and extended through an opening in the supporting arm 3, and suitably anchored therein, while the opposite ends of said rods slidably extend through studs 12, mounted on the arms 4, and project outwardly therefrom, said screws 18, being threadably mounted in the outer ends and adapted to be engaged with the rods 10, for locking said rods in a desired position of adjustment in said studs.
A U-shaped supporting bracket is indicated generally at 14-, the legs 15 of which are provided with offset upper ends 16, mounted on the cross bar 6, connecting the arms 4, and depending therefrom, so that the connecting portions of said arms, indicated at 17, will seat on the same supporting surface as the wheels 2, for coopera tion therewith in holding the arms in proper supporting relation, for supporting the barrel. A pair of connecting links 18 have one end secured at the lower ends of the legs 15 of said U-shaped bracket member, and the other end secured to the outer end portion of the axle 1, so that said connecting bars will hold said supporting bracket M in proper relation with respect to the axle, for supporting the barrel in a proper relation, and at the same time cooperating with the lower ends of the supporting arms for retaining the wheels 2, in a desired spaced relation on the axle.
It will be noted from an examination of Figure 1, that the ends of the arms 4: are extended as indicated at 4: beyond the peripheries of the wheel 2, so that they will act as a support for the arms, the axle and the barrel, when the same is being raised or moved from a vertical position, to the horizontal position shown in Figure 1, and prevents engagement of the wheels with the ground or supporting surface, to thereby prevent rolling of the barrel thereon, during this raising operation. These arms 4: however, do not interfere with the wheeling of the barrel on the support from place to place, as the ends do not engage the supporting surface, until the U-shaped member 1% has been raised several inches above the supporting surface.
It will be seen from the foregoing descrip tion that a novel and simple form of wheeled barrel support has been provided, which is a substantial improvement of the co-pending application, and which is more efficient in its operation, in the support of a barrel.
What is claimed is:
A barrel support including two pairs of supporting arms the inner ends of the arms of one pair eing connected to the inner ends of the arms of the other pair with the arms of the respective pairs arranged in relative angular relation, the arms of each of said pairs being disposed in spaced parallelism with respect to each other and the outer ends of all of said arms being provided with barrel engaging hooks, cross bars connecting the said arms together adjacent the outer end thereof for maintaining them in spaced parallelism, a U- shaped supporting bracket having the free ends of its arms connected with and depending from one of said cross bars, a pair of parallel connecting links secured at one end to the bottom of the U-shaped supporting brackets and extending in spaced parallel relation to and being connected with the inner ends of the arms of the pairs for holding the latter in spaced parallelism and the bracket in spaced relation thereto, and adjusting rods connecting the arms of one pair with the arms of the other pair, whereby to permit the pairs to be adjusted to various angular positions with respect to each other.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ALFRED OLSON.
