TERS co. mom-unis" WASHINGTON n c Patented February 23, 1904..
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
MARTIN SCHWAB, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
SHADE-ROLLER-BRACKET JACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 752,866, dated February 23, 1904.
Application filed August 13, 1903.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN SoHWAB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade-Roller-Bracket Jacks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to shade-roller-bracketjacks, and has for its object the construction of adevice adapted to be placed upon a windowcasing and hold shade-roller brackets in their proper positions while the same are being secured to a window-casing.
Shade-roller brackets are usually secured to Window-casings by measuring and locating each set thereof on the casing of the Window separately. By means of my improved jack I can adjust it to suit the proper location of the brackets on a number of windows, and When so adjusted it can be hooked on the top of each Window-casing and the brackets placed in the jaws thereof, which locates them in their proper places on the casing, and they are held by said jaws in such positionand against the casing until they are secured thereto.
Thefeatures of this invention are hereinafter set forth and described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the upper part of a Window-casing, showingmy improved jack thereon. Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical section thereof on the line m w in Fig. 1.
In the drawings, A is a horizontal rod, upon which I mount adjustable sleeves B B, preferably secured to, said rod A by means of thumb-screws Z2 7). Upon the sleeves B there are hooks C, adapted to engage the top of a window-casing D, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. Upon the sleeves B B and preferably integral therewith there are vertical sleeves E E. In these sleeves E E, I mount vertically- Serial No. 169,355. (No model.)
adjustable rods F F, which are secured in the sleeves E E by means of thumb-screws e e. The rods F F are preferably provided with scale-marks f, whereby the adjustment of the rods F in the sleeves E can be determined, as desired. On the lower end of each of the rods F there is an open jaw H of suitable size and shape to receive and hold the shank of a shade-roller bracket I, as illustrated in Fig. 2, and by means whereof the bracket I can be held against the window-casing D until secured thereto in the usual manner.
In operation the sleeves B are adjusted upon the rod A the proper distance apart and the rods F are vertically adjusted in thesleeves E, as desired. The hooks C are then placed upon the top of the window-casing, and the shaderoller brackets I, being placed in the jaws H of the rods F, are held thereby in the proper locations against the face of the casing D, as illustrated in Fig. 2, until they are secured to the casing, after which the jack mechanism is removed.
Having thus described my invention so as to enable others to construct and use the same, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. The combination in a shade-roller-bracket jack, of a horizontal rod, adjustable sleeves thereon, hooks on said sleeves, vertically-adj ustable rods mounted thereon, and jaws on the lower ends of said rods, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination in a shade roller-bracket jack, of a horizontal rod, sleeves adjustably secured thereto, hooks on said sleeves, vertical sleeves secured to the sleeves on-the rod, vertically-adjustable rods in said sleeves, bracketjaws on the lower ends of the rods, and means for securing the rods in said sleeves, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARTIN SCHWAB.
