VANITY CASE.

This invention relates'to certain new and useful improvements in .vanity' cases, and the primary 1 object thereof Jis to provide a vanity case wherein same may be opened and closed with. but one hand and, upon opening the mirror. will be automatically projectedoutwa'rd, and upon closing, will be automaticallymoved into the, case.

A further -objectiof the invention is to provide a structure wherein the .mirror is moved into thejcase. by -mere. engagement therewith'of either the coveror body of the ease -and also to providea structure wherein the mirror holds the bodyand cover firmly apart or at the limit of their extended positions.

In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a body 1 is employed having a cover 2 hinged thereto at 3. Powder or rouge of Varying or desired color is placed in the cover and body, the usual powder pads D, D being employed. The cover has a retaining bar .4, to removably secure its pad in place.

A mirror 5 6 to the body 1 at an angle to the axis of the hinge 3 so that the periphery of the mirror frame will engage the pad D and the rim of the cover.

In operation, when the latch L is released by the thumb of the user, the mirror under the impulse of the spring of its hinge, will engage the pad D and ride thereover, having a camming action on the cover to force the latter to its limit of opening, in which position, the parts will be held as depicted in the drawings, wherein the mirror extends across the line of hinging of the body and cover and outwardly of same at an angle. To close the case, the fingers are moved to cause the cover to move to normal position, which movement effects a similar camming action of the pad D on the periphery of the mirror whereby the latter is automatically moved to completely lie within the case, or between the body and cover.

In a vanity case, a body, a cover hinged to the body, a mirror, means to connect the mirror to one of the first two named elements so as to overlie the other element when the parts are in full open position whereby in such open position of the elements the body, cover and mirror each face the user and all lie in substantially triangular relation and with the mirror extending outwardly beyond the body and cover and means to actuate the mirror and thereby move the other element to full open position and upon closing movement of the said other element to enable the latter to automatially move the mirror into the body.

3. In a vanity case, a body, a cover, means to movably connect the body and cover, a mirror, and means to connect the mirror to one of the two first named elements so as' opening and closing of the case whereby the case may be completely opened and closed by the use of but one hand. I

In a vanity case, a body, a cover therefor, means to movably connect the cover to the body, a mirror, and means to movably connect the mirror to one of the two first named elements and with the mirror arranged to have a part thereof engage the other of said two first named elements in both full open and closed position otthe parts so as to actuate and be actuatedby the latter; I 7 r V V 5. In a vanity case, a body, a cover there for, means to movably connect the cover to the body,a mirror, and a spring hinge to movably connect the mirror to one of the two first namedelements and with the mirror arranged "to have a partthereof and continuously to cammingly engage the other of said two first named elements so as to actuate and be actuated'by the latter.

Ina vanity case, a body, a cover hinged thereto, a mirror, and means to movably mount the mirror on one of the said parts whereby to effect positive and complete out- Ward movement ofthe other part by the mirror and retention thereof in the full open position and inward movement of the mirror by said other partin opening and closing of the case. I

7. In avanity case, a

body, a cover, means to movably connect the cover to the body, a mirror, means to connect the mirror to one of the first two named elements so as to be movable into and out of the case and to overlie and positively hold the other of said elements at its limit of outward movement when the mirror is disposed out of the one of the first named elements whereby the 'case may be'completely opened and closediby use of but one hand and upon opening or closing the mirror will be automatically moved out of and intothe case, the body and cover both lying substantially tangential to the mirror in open position of the parts. 7

9. In a vanity case, a body, a cover, means to movably connect the body and cover, a mirror and means to connect the mirror to one of the two first named elements so as to cause the mirror to have engagement with the other element in all positions of the mirror whereby the case maybe completely opened and closed by use of but one hand.
