Description

Aug. 31, 1926. 1,598,544
N. TANQUARY ORNAMENT HOLDER FOR RADIATOR CAPS Filed Sept. 16, 1925 Patented Aug. 31, 1926.
UNETEB STATES NEAL TANQUARY, or nos ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
ORNAMENT HOLDER FOR RADIATOR CAPS.
Application filed September My invention relates to an ornament holder that is adapted to be applied to the filler caps of automobile radiators, the principal objects of my invention being to provide a relatively simple, practical and easily produced one-piece device that may be readily applied to radiator caps and the motormeters that are generally associated therewith, and which device will provide a firm l0 and substantial support for an ornament or emblem of the type that are generally applied to motor vehicle radiator caps.
l Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an ornament holder of my improved construction.
Fig. 2 is a view looking against the underside of the holder.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken through the center of the upper portion of a. radiator cap that carries a conventional form of motormeter and showing my improved ornament holder associated therewith.
Fig. 4- is a side elevational View of a modified form of my improved holder.
Referring by numerals to the accompany ing drawing which illustrates a practical embodiment of my invention, designates a plate that is preferably cast or stamped from suitable metal such as brass or bronze, and formed in the center of said plate is a substantially circular aperture 11, and eX- tcnding therefrom to the rear edge of said plate in a slot 12.
Formed integral with and projecting upwardly from the rear portions of the sides of plate 10 are short side walls 13 and formed integral with the upper portions thereof and projecting outwardly away from plate 10 is a plate 14 that occupies a plane parallel with, but slightly elevated with respect to plate 10.
Formed in the outer portion of plate 14 is an aperture 15 and formed in the under side of said plate is a longitudinally disposed channel or recess 16.
In some instances and for the accommodation of certain ornaments or emblems, the outer portion of plate 14 may be provided with one or more upstanding lugs or pins such as 17.
In applying my improved ornament 16, 1925. Serial No. 56,690.
holder to a radiator cap, plate 10 is positioned directly on top of the hinged cap (7 with the stem or shank of the motormeter M extending through aperture 11. Thus the base portion B of the motormeter bears directly on top of the plate 10 and the lug or car L that is formed on the upper rear portion of cap C in certain makes of cars projects upwardly into slot 12.
The base portion of an ornament O, for instance, the miniature of a bird, animaha human figure, a lodge or patriotic emblem, rests on the upper portion of plate 14 and the stud that depends from said ornament passes through aperture 15 and is secured by means of a rivet or nut, and which latter occupies the recess 16. Thus the emblem or ornament is maintained in a position slightly above and in front of the motormeter where it may be readily observed and, as the entire holder is securely locked to cap C, said holder and the ornament carried thereby may be swung upwardly and rearwardly when the cap is opened to permit water to be delivered into the radiator.
The particular form of holder herein shown and described is capable of practically universal use on all forms of radiator caps and the motormeters carried thereby and said holder will accommodate practically any form of an ornament or emblem.
Thus it will be seen that I have provided a relatively simple, practical and easily manufactured device that may be very firm- E O ly secured to a radiator cap and which pro- Vides a firm and substantial support for an ornament or emblem.
It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved ornament holder may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. An ornament holder for radiator caps comprising a base plate in which is formed a key-h0le shaped slot, an ornament supporting plate occupying a position that is ofiset vertically and horizontally relative to said base plate and vertically disposed webs connecting the rear end of the ornament supporting plate with the front portions of the sides of said base plate.
2. An ornament holder for radiator caps comprising a base plate in which is formed a slot, an ornament supporting plate occupying a position that is ofit -set vertically and horizontally relative to said base plate, said ornament supporting plate having a centrally arranged opening and webs connecting.
the rear end of the ornament supporting plate with the front portions of the sides of said base plate.
3. An ornament holder for radiator caps 10 comprising a base plate and an ornament of said plates, the base plate being pro- 15 vided with a slot and the ornament supporting plate being provided with an opening.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signa ture.
