WILLIAM DUNNELL AND SAMUEL DUNNELL, 013 DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
FLAG-SUPPORTING DEVICE FOR MO'IOMETER-S.
Application filed December 8, 1923.. Serial No. 679,438.
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that we, l/VILLIAM DUNNELL and SAMUEL DUNNELL, citizens of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of lVayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flag-Supporting Devices for Motometers, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to automobile attachments, and particularly to attachments for supporting flags and other insignia upon automobiles.
The object of the invention is to provide a very simple, cheap and effective device particularly adapted to be mounted upon the motometer of an automobile and designed to support a plurality of flags or like devices.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which is attractive, which may be readily applied and readily removed, and which will not injure the motometer.
Other objects will appear in the course of the following description.
Our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of aflag support constructed in accordance with our invention;
Figure 2 is a top plan View of a flag support constructed in accordance with our invention Figure 3 is: an enlarged fragmentary sec tional view of the meeting ends of the clamping ring and the clamping means therefor.
The device comprises a ring formed in two sections 10 and 11 hinged at 12 and provided with a lining of felt, designated 13. This clamping ring formed of the sections 10 and 11 is split at 14 and on each side of the split there are disposed the out Wardly extending lugs 15 and 165. Passing through these lugs and urging the two sections of the ring toward each other is a screw 17, the head of the screw bearing against one of said lugs and the screw passing loosely through the perforation in that lug but having screw-threaded engagement Thus when the screws are turned up the lugs will be brought toward each other to embrace the motometer.
The sections are formed with a plurality of outstanding arms, the arms 18 at their ends carrying sleeves 19, these sleeves or sockets being disposed preferably at an obtuse angle to the arms. These sleeves or sockets may be of any desired ornamental configuration. Preferably the sleeves or sockets are open at opposite ends and each sleeve or socket is provided with a set screw 20. /Vhile we do not wish. to be limited to any particular disposition of these sleeves or sockets, preferably there is an arm 18 extending upward from the section 11 and two arms 18 extending laterally from the section 10 sufiiciently above the lower end of this section 10 to be supported in spaced relation to the radiator of the automobile.
The sockets 19 are designed to receive flag staffs or the staffsof like emblems.
As before remarked, the device is intended to be mounted upon the mo-to-meter and thereby support these flagstaifs in a slightly inclined position to the horizontal. While we have particularly designed this for mounting upon the motometer, yet the device may also obviously be mounted upon the radiator cap if made of proper size and will thus support the flagstafi's in an approximately vertical position.
An emblem supporting device for motometers comprising a ring adapted to embrace the moto-meter and formed in two rigid sections, the section's being hinged to each other and lined with soft material, the free ends of the sections having outstanding lugs, one of said lugs being interior-1y screwthreaded, a screw passing through the'tw'olugs and having screw-threads engaging the interiorly screw-threaded lug, one of said sections having an upstanding arm projecting outward from the sections midway between the extremities thereof and carrying at its extremity an angularly disposed socket and the other section having opposed outstanding arms having inclined sockets at their ends, each of said sockets being open at its opposite ends and having a set screw whereby the emblem may be engaged in the socket.
In testimony whereof we hereunto affix our signatures.
l/VILLIAM DUNNELL. SAMUEL DUNNELL.
