UETED ST'l'ES PATENT OFFICE.
CARBOY.
Application filed December 1, 1925. Serial No. 72,527.
My invention relates to carboys and has for its object to provide a carboy having at its side and bottom resilient members to which are secured retainers carrying replaceable buffers.
Another object of the invention is to provide the resilient members with supports at their ends and to dispose the retainers intermediate of the ends of the resilient members so that the buffers carried by the retainers will be held yieldingly in engagement with a bottle which may be disposed in the carboy.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a construction which may be manufactured at little expense and in which dam aged parts may be replaced at a minimum cost.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of the invention is (lGSCIllJGCL' In the drawings similar reference characters refer to similar parts in the two views, in which Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation showing the invention, and
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
By referring to the drawings, and particularly Fig. 2 of the drawings, it will be seen that the vertical members 5 of which the earboy body is constructed are of equal length and that the sides 6 at the ends 7 of the said vertical members engage the butts 8 of adjacent vertical members. With this construction all the vertical members are of the same size and may be manufactured all alike at a saving of expense. This also makes it possible to replace broken vertical members without ditliculty or delay inasmuch as one or more vertical members may be kept in reserve to be used to replace damaged parts.
in the carboy body are disposed vertical corners 9 which are triangular in cross section, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, there being secured to the top and to the bottom of these vertical corner members 9 supports 10 to which are secured resilient vertical members 11. It Will be seen that these resilient vertical members 11 are held yieldingly between their supports 10. To these vertical resilient members there are secured retainers 12 which are preferably disposed intermediate of the supports 10, these retainers 12 having inwardly disposed sides 13 for gripping buffers lt which may be manufactured of cork or other similar material.
At the bottom of the carboy body there are horizontally disposed resilient members 15, preferably two in number, one disposed t right angles to the other. These resilient members 15 rest on supports 16 which are disposed at the ends of the resilient members 15, as best shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Mounted on these resilient members 15 there are retainers 12 which have upwardly extending sides 13 which grip the buffers 14* which may be manufactured of cork. The retainers 12 with the buffers 14k" may be disposed relative to the ends of the resilient members 15 as may be desired but it has been found advisable to dispose these retainers 12" with the buders 1 k in close proximity to the ends of the resilient members 15. The carboy body is provided with a bottom 17 on which the supports 16 are disposed.
WVhat I claim is 1. In a carboy, a body, vertically disposed resilient members in the body, supports for the resilient members which hold parts of the resilient members spaced from the carboy body, retainers having inwardly projecting portions on the inner faces of the resilient members on the said parts, and buffers held between the said projecting portions of the retainers for engaging a bottle which may be disposed in the body.
2. In a carboy, a body, a horizontally disposed member, supports for the said member with its portion intermediate of the supports spaced from the bottom of the carboy, a retainer disposed on the member and provided with oppositely disposed upwardly extending portions, and a buffer on the retainer held in position by the said portions.
