Be it known that I, CHARLns LErKowrrz, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a newV and Improved Carboy, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention has for its object to provide a carboy with an inner skeleton frame which is removable from the body of the carboy. This makes it convenient to repair the inner parts which are sometimes broken during transportation.

Vhen in use, a large bottle of liquid is disposed in the carboy and this bottle is held relatively to the body of the carboy by the inner frame which is of relatively light material and serves as a cushion. As the bottle, when filled with liquid is very heavy, a sudden shock or jar to the carboy'may possibly break a portion of the inner frame which is of light material. My inner frame is not only readily removable from the body of the carboy, but the inner frame is constructed in a manner which makes it possible to replace quickly any part which may be broken. These parts may be kept on hand, which will permit of the repair of carboys with little trouble.

Figure 3 is 'a vertical sectional view of the false cushioning body 8 spaced from the bottom 9 of the carboy by supporting members 10. At the corners of the body of thecarboy there are corner members 11 which are normally engaged by the corner members 12 on the inner frame. These corner members 12 not only engage the cornerv members 11 in the body of the carboy, but the corner members 12 also preferably engage the sides of the body of the carboy adjacent its corner members 11. Secured to each of the corner members 12 there are two pairs of side members 13, one pair of the side members 13 being disposed preferably adjacent the top'of the corner members 12 and the other pair of the side members 13 being preferably disposed adjacent the bottom of the corner members 12. These side members 13 are disposed at the sides of the body 5 of the carboy when the inner frame, illustrated in Figure 2, is disposed in the body of the carboy. The side members 13 on each Vcorner post are spaced from the side members 13 on adjacent corner posts and disposed in these spaces there are intermediate side members 14, there being obliquely disposed laterally supporting members 15 having their ends disposed at the sides of the intermediate side members 14, the intermediate side members and the ends of the obliquely disposed supporting members 15 filling the spaces between the side members 13, as is shown in the drawings. 16 and 17 are provided, the retaining member 16 being secured to the under sides of the side members 13 and the intermediate Imembers 14 and the retaining member 17 being secured to the upper surfaces of the side members 13 and the intermediate side members 14. The arrangement of the side members 13, the intermediate side members 14 and the obliquely disposed laterally supporting members 15 is the same at the bottom ofthe inner frame as it is at the vtop of the inner frame and in each case the retaining

16 and 17 serve to hold the side members 13, the intermediate side members 14 and the ends of the obliquely disposed laterally supporting members 15 in position. j

It will be'understood that the bottle comes in contact with the obliquely disposed supporting members 15 andjthat these supporting members 15 are of'resilient construction so that they will cushion shocks and jars. These supporting members 15 may possibly -be broken in service and when this is the case, the inner frame, illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawings, may be removed from the body 5 of the carboy and by removing the upper retaining members 17 the ob- Vliquely disposed supporting members 15 which have been broken may be removed,

and new supporting members 15 substituted Should a side member 13 or one or more of the intermediate side members 14 become broken or damaged it may` be rep-laced in the same way.

It will be understood that with the side members and the intermediate side members 14 secured to the bottom retaining members 16 that recesses will be formed between the intermediate side members 14 and the side lmembers 13 in which the ends of the supporting members 15 may be introduced. It will also be appreciated that in some cases it may be advisable to introduce new supporting members 15 without removing the upper retaining members 17, this being possible by sliding the supporting member 15 longitudinally through one recess until its inner end is inserted in the second recess between an intermediate side member 14 and one of the side members 13.

W hen the inner skeleton frame, illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawings, is introduced into the body 5 of the carboy and a bottle is inserted in the usual way, a wooden cover 18 of the usual type with an opening 19 for the neck 20 of the bottle is disposed in place and is secured to the body of the carboy, this cover 18 being provided with depending portions 21 for engaging the bottle.

That is claimed is:

1. In a carboy, an outer body having sides and corner pieces, an inner fra-me disposed in the outer body and having members disposed substantially parallel with the sides of the outer body and corner pieces disposed `at the first mentioned corner pieces and obliquely disposed supporting members secured to the said members of the inner frame, the inner fra-me with the obliquely disposedl supporting members being free from the outer body to permit of the convenient removal of the inner frame as a unit from the outer body. v

2. In a carboy an outer body having corner pieces with oblique inner faces and an inner frame free from the outer body, the inner frame having connecting sides and being removably disposed in the outer p body and having vertical corner pieces with oblique outer faces in Contact with the oblique faces on the vfirst mentioned corner pieces. `3. In a carboy 4an outer body having corner4 pieces with oblique inner faces and an inner frame free from the outer body, the inner frame having connecting sides and being removably disposed in the outer body,

the inner frame having vertical corner' pieces with'oblique outer faces engaging the said faces on the iirst mentioned corner pieces and also the sides of the outer body adjacent the first mentioned corner pieces.

4. In a carboy, corner pieces, eight side members two secured to each corner piece,

four intermediate side members each disposed between, in alignment with and spaced from, two of the lirst mentioned side members, four obliquely disposed supporting members each having each of its ends disposed between one of the first mentioned side members and one of the intermediate side members, and retaining members secured to the iirst mentioned side members and the intermediate side members and which serve to carry the supporting members.

5. In a carboy, corner pieces, eight side members two secured to each corner piece, four intermediate side members each disposed between, in alignment with and spaced from, two of the first mentioned side members, four obliquely disposed support- 'ing members each having each of its ends vdisposed between one of the first mentioned side members and one of the intermediate side members, and retaining 'members secured to the top and bottom of the first mentioned side members and which serve to hold in place the intermediate side members and the supporting members.

6. In a carboy, `corner pieces, two bottle supporting means spaced apart each consisting of eight side members two secured to each corner piece, four intermediate side members each disposed between, in alignment with and spaced from, two of the first mentioned side members, four obliquely disposed supporting members each having each of its ends disposed between one of the first mentioned side members and one of the intermediate side members, and retaining members secured to the first mentioned side members and the intermediate side mem- ,'bersand which serve to carry the supporting y supporting members having its two ends removably disposed on the said means.

9. A carboy having sides with recesses for receiving the ends of bottle supporting members and obliquely disposed vbottle supporting members free from each other, each having both of its ends disposed in the recesses.

10. In alcarboy an outer body, an inner frame removably disposed in the outer body and vhaving recesses between its corners for receiving the ends of 'bottle supporting members and bottle supporting members having their ends disposed in the recesses.

11. In a carboy, an outer body, an inner frame removably disposed in the outer body and having corner pieces, eight side members two secured to each corner piece, four intermediate side members each disposed between, in alignment with and spaced from, two of the first mentioned side members, foul` obliquely disposed supporting members each having each of its ends disposed between one of the first mentioned side members and one of the intermediate side members, and retaining members secured to the first mentioned side members and the intermediate side members and which serve to carry the supporting members.

l2. In a carboy an outer body having corner pieces with oblique inner faces, additional corner pieces with oblique outer faces engaging the oblique faces on the first mentioned corner pieces and side members in close proximity to the outer body connecting the said additional corner pieces.

13. In a carboy, an outer body having corner pieces with oblique inner faces, an inner frame free from the outer body, the inner frame having connecting sides and being removably disposed in the outer body, and having vertical corner pieces with oblique outer faces in contact with the inner faces on the first mentioned corner pieces, and obliquely disposed supporting members held in position by the inner frame.

14. In a carboy, corner pieces, side members having ends connected to the corner pieces, obliquely dispo-sed supporting members having their ends disposed between the othervends of the side members respectively, and retaining members secured to the side lIncmbers which carry the supporting memers.
