COMPACT HOLDER.
This invention relates to improvements in compact holders, that is, metal holders for toilet powder compacts and has for its object the provision of a compact holder of the ordinary form and size which will be capable of holding three separate cakes or compacts of toilet powder or rouge in a reasonable compass. F or this purpose, I have devised a novel construction for holding two semi-circular cakes of compact powder on one side of the holder.
Further objects of the invention will be apparent from the drawings in wl1ich Figure 1 is a perspective view of the entire holder assembled.
Figure 2 is a vertical section along the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view showing the separating member for the semicircular compact holders released from the holder.
Figure l is an enlarged View of the hold ers :tor the semi-circular compacts and separating member.
Figure 5 is a plan View showing the intermediate or separating member in position.
The holder or outer case is of conventional construction consisting of two bowl-shaped halves A and B, having rounded bottoms, the halves A and I) being hinged together and having an intervening metal mirror C. In this embodiment the member B is provided with a powder compact and powder pull oi the conventional size and shape, so need not be "further described in this specilication.
In the cover member A are positioned the two semi-circular holders D and D having the perpendicular flange D and D are separated within the cover it by the partition G which is provided with the finger-holds K which rest upon the bottom of the cover A. Hinged to the partition G is a semicircular metallic member ld adapted to serve as the cover of either D or D and having the linger-hold N. The containers D and D have their exterior surfaces conforming to the shape of: the member A and are held securely within such member by indentations R in the side of the cover A, the containers D and D being sprung into position by exerting a slight pressure upon the sides of the container A. The partition member G has the projections T fitting in notches V in the side of the member A.
By the construction here described, I am Serial No. 72,435.
enabled to produce What is a triple compact in which the compacts are readily interchangeable and removable. In D and D can be put powder and rouge respectively, or both compartments can be used for different shades of rouge. It is obvious by this construction also that either D or D can be independently replaced.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a compact holder a body and a cover, semi-circular independent holders positioned in said body, a partition dividing said semicircular members from each other, a cover hinged to said partition adapted to cover one or other of said semi-circular members, said semi-circular holders being independently replaceable in said body.
2. In a compact holder a body and a cover, two complementary semi-circular members positioned in said body, said semi-circular members being independently replaceable, a partition separating said complementary members and a semi-circular cover member hinged to said partition and adapted to cover one or the other o1 said semi-circular member.
In a compact holder, a body and a cover, complementary semi-circular members for holding toilet compacts positioned on one side of said compact holder, a partition separating said semi-circular members, a cover hinged to said partition, and a fingerhold on each side of said partition.
4. A compact holder comprising a body and a cover, two complementary semi-circular members positioned on one side of said compact holder, said members being 'idependently replaceable in said holder, a partition separating said members, indentations in the body of said compact holder to receive said partition, and a cover member hinged to said partition and adapted to cover either semi-circular member.
5. A compact holder comprising a body and a cover, complementary semi-circular members adapted to be positioned on one side of said cover, each member having a perpendicular fiange adjacent each other and each member being independently replaceable in said compact holder, and means by which said members may be independently removed from the holder.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
WILLIAM G. KENDALL.
