EXTENSION TABLE.
Applicatin filed February This invention relates to extension tables comprisino' a main section and an auxiliary extension section adapted to be folded within the mainVV section. In the accompanying drawings, Fig. l is a perspective view showing the table tilted to bringtoview the bottoin of the table, the auxiliary section being' parv tially drawn out of the main section;

Referring to saidl drawings, A is the top of the main section of the table. B, B are 'the side walls of said section. C is the end wall of the main section. The upper edges of these walls bear against the lower face of said top and are suitably secured to said rThe ends of said walls meet the legs, D. A binding plate, D1, is placed opposite each leg, D, and bears against the inner` face of the adjacent side wall, B, and against the inner face of the adjacentV end wall, C. A screw, D2, extends horizontally through each such plate and into the adjacent leg, D, and serves to draw said leg toward said plate, whereby the leg is drawn firmly against the adjacent ends of the walls, B and C. (See Figs. l, 5 and 6.) To give the plates, D1, good seating on the walls, B and C, the inner faces of said walls are provided with notches, D3. These plates may also be secured to the adjacent walls by means of nails or screws, D4. a
A bridge plate, E, extends transversely across the main section of the table and across the lower face of each side wall, B, B, at the ends of the latter, andis secured to said walls by means of screws, E1. A leg, E2, has its upper end bearing against the lower face of Ysaid bridge plate and is suitably secured thereto. The length of said leg is suc-li as to bring its lower end into the plane of the lower ends of the legs, D, D.

are of such length as will bring their lower ends into the plane of the lower ends of the legs, D, D, and E2.

On the outer face of each wall, F1, of the lauxiliary section of the tableis a rib or tongue, F2, extending horizontally from the adjacent leg, H, tol the opposite end of said wall. Each of said tongues lies in a'groove or channel, B1, formed on the inner face `of the adjacent side wall, B. Said tongues are slidable endwise in said channels or grooves. This permits sliding the auxiliary table sectionendwise relative to the main table section.
The legs, H, H, are placed on the outer edges of the auxiliary top, F, in position to pass under the main top, A, and against' the adjacent ends of theA side walls, B, B, when the auxiliary section has been pushed into the main sectionY as far as it is intended to go. 'The drawings show the outer end edge of the auxiliary top, F, even with the corresponding edge of the top, A, when the auxiliary section has been thus folded. The drawings also show the auxiliary section .long enough to substantially reach to the binding blocks, D1, of the main section when the auxiliary section has been thus folded. To form av limit for the outward niovement ofthe auxiliary section, a stop strip, I, is placed `on the upper face ofthe bridge plate, E, in position to bear against the lower part of the auxiliary section end wall,
G1, when that section has been drawn out as far as it is to go. It will beV observed that when the auxiliary section has reached that position, the tongues, F2, are still in the grooves or channels, B1, and the inner end of the auxiliary section is supported by said tongues and also by the bridge plate, E, the side walls, F1, F1, of the auxiliary section resting o'n the upper face orn the bridge plate. When the auxiliary section has been thus extended, the leg, E?, supports the bridge plate and the adjacent ends of the two table sections. Thus the entire eX- tendedv structure is supported at each end by two` corner legs and is supported intermediate its` ends by the intermediate leg, E2, eX- tending downward from the bridge plate, E. `When the structure is folded, the auxiliary section legs and the bridge plate leg, E2, are
neareach other at thev end of the structure; Excepting iior thev presence of the bridge plate leg and forv the exposed outer end of the auxiliary top, F, the folded structure has the appearance of an ordinary table having a 'flat top and four corner legs..
it will be observed that the auxiliary section may be used when it has been inoved out to its limit or only partially to its limit.
For storage or shipment in knock-down forin, the two corner legs, D and the two corner legs H, H, may. be detached by releasing the screws, D2, and placing the legs into the space between the side walls and end' Walls ofV the auxiliary section, and the bridge plate andthe leg, Eniay be inoved by releasing the screws, El, by ineans of which. the bridge plate is secured to the niainsection side Walls, B, B.
I claim as iny invention,
l. In an extension table, the combination of a main section having a fixed top and side walls and an auxiliary section extendinginto the inain'section and comprising a fixed top below the main section top and having side walls fitting to the inner face of theV side walls oi the main section, said sections having legs at their outer ends, the main section having a bridge plate at its inner end, the inner end o' the auxiliary section and the bridge plate beingA 'formed and positioned for inter-engagement when the tablev is 'fully extended, and a leg attached to said bridge plate, substantially as described.
