LSQGMQQ PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR G. NORSWORTHY, 0F JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA.
CLOTHES PROTECTOR FOR IRONING BOARDS.
Application filed. September 3-, 1925. Serial No. 54,310.
This invention relates to improvements in ironing boards, and consists of the constructions, combinations and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a protector so attachable to the standard or other support of an ironing board as to form a guard upon which overhanging pieces of clothing will be held during the process of ironing, thereby keeping such pieces from touching the floor and obviating the necessity of spreading paper on the floor.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ironing board to the standard of which the protector is attached.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the protector, the ironing board standard being shown in section.
In carrying out the invention provision is mad of a frame 1 which is preferably constructed of galvanized iron pipe of appropriate diameter. A network 2 stretched across the frame as shown forms the guard upon which overhanging parts of clothing being ironed will be supported. The network is constructed of galvanized wire, the fact that all parts are galvanized making the protector entirely rust-proof and easily cleaned. The protector is generally of a rectangular shape, but at the left extremity it is offset at 3 producing what might be called an indentation or space a for the oc cupancy of the worker. The indentation or space makes it possible for the worker to stand as close to the ironing board 5 as necessary, the offset 3 serving to catch the overhanging parts of clothing because it is largely at the left extremity of the board that such overhanging occurs. The overhanging of clothing also occurs at that edg of the board 5 remote from the operator or worker and for that purpose the protector extends. a little distance from the standard 6. The relationship of the protector to the standard is shown in Figure 2. I
A pair of arms 7 straddles the standard 6, and at the extremities have one or more pairs of holes 8 for the reception of a bolt 9. This bolt has a nut 10'! which when screwed down upon the bolt and against one of the arms causes the arms to grip the standard. It is thus that the protector is clamped in position.
In order that adequate support may be given to the frame 1 and that the entire strain may not be upon the arms 7 and bolts 9 the otherwise free extremity of the frame is provided with one or more legs 11. These rest upon the floor and hold the free end up for the purpose described.
WVhile the construction and arrangement of the protector is that of a generally preferred form, obviously modifications and changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claim.
I claim A. protector for the purpose described comprising a frame having all sides thereof situated in the same plane, one side being inwardly bent to provide a standing space, means comprising a network spanning the frame and forming a guard, a pair of arms extending from the frame to fit upon an ironing board support, a bolt fitted from arm to arm near the extremities having a nut to be tightened against one of the arms thereby to produce a clamping action, and
a pair of legs pendant from the frame at a place substantially opposite to the clamping means.
