Application filed July 6,
servesto" completely" enclose the front of the clock-and coverthe same so that the dirt or dust settles upon the container which'm'ay be readily discarded when desired. j
The above and other-objects will become apparent in the description below, in which "characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing. 6 3 Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the container blank before th process of folding.
Figure 2 is a'sectional elevational view "thru the container.
Figure 3 is aperspective view of the container in folded'position, a part thereof being broken away to illustrate the formation of the platform upon which the'clock stands within the container.
Referring in detail to the drawing, Figure 1 illustrates the blank from which the container formed. This blank is of an integral piece of rigid and bendable material such as paper or the like. The blank consists of a rectangular central piece of material which'has its upper corners cut away to provide a semicircular upper edge 11. At the top of this semicircular upper edge, an additional connecting flap 12 is integrally joined withthe central portion 10. This connecting flap has a width of material 14 integral therewith which serves as the closure flap and bends on the dotted line 15. vThe sides of the central portion 10 are integral with side walls 13 and 16 which are bent at right angles to the plane of the central portion 10 on the dotted lines 17. From the lower edge or bottom of the central portion, a plurality of flaps, at least four in number, and indicated by the numerals 18, 19, 20, and 21, successively join each other and are integral with the bottom edge of the central portion 10. These flaps are positioned side by side, one successively following the other and are bent on the lines 22 to forge-a a hollo Support after being The container 1925. Serial No. 41,607.-
folded into a square, the flap 20 serving as a platform while the flaps 19 and 21 serve as legs upon 'whichthe platform 20 is supported; The leg flap 19 has ears 23 extending from its ends which are adapted to be folded on the dotted lines 2 1 to close I the ends of thehollow structure formed by bending the flaps 18, 19, 20, and 21. Their relation to the container is illustrated in Figure 3. The central portion 10015 the blank has a relatively larg opening 25 thru which the dial-or face of the clock, which issupported upon the platform flap; 20, is visible.
This container, as illustrated, is adapted to be used with clocks which have a semicircular top, but it is to be understood that such clocks as have different shapes at their upper ends, such as octagonal or many sided flats thereon, only necessitate the changing of the outline or semi-circular edge 11 of the central-portion of the blank. The side walls 13 and 16 and the connectingflap 12 are of approximately the ,same width and are folded at right angles to the central portion 10 to provide a containerhavinga bottom and side walls. To'con'struot-the container from the blank, as illustrated in Figure 1, the side walls which are of slightly greater length than the length of the central portion 10, are folded upon the line 17 to an upright position, the upper or free ends of these sides 13 and 16 being curved around the semi-circular edge 11 of the central portion 10. The ends 26 of the sides 13 and 16 are mutually spaced-apart and have a space between them which is covered by the connecting flap 12 as it folds on the line 27 externally over the ends 26 of these sides. l/Vhen this connecting flap has been folded in this manner, the closure flap is folded downwardly and inwardly on the dotted line 15 so that said closure flap attains a position parallel to the connecting flap and beneath the ends 26 of the sides 13 and 16. The four flaps 18, 19, 20, and 21', which extend from the opposite end of the central portion 10, are folded on the line 22 and are of the same general width. These flaps are all folded in the same direction and when so folded, provide a rectangular hollow boxlike structure of which the flap 20 serves as a platform, resting upon legs 21 and 19, which serve as legs upon which the platform stands. The ears 23 are then folded toward ea h o h r 2 close h end Qft ir gular structure formed by the folding of the tour-named flaps and also aids in giving ri idity to the platform. The container now completely folded its lower end must be secured in position so that the same will not untold. The container is secured against unfolding by a pair of ears 28 and 29 Whichinay have oneoif their faces treated with glue. These ears extend from the loxlver ends oii'the sides 13 and 1t. and told on the lines These cars, when the container is fully 'iEOldfi-Bd, seat upon the external surface of the flap 18 and may be glued thereto, as desired. A small clock may then beinserte'd into the chamber of the container to rest upon the platform flap 20and its face or dial may bevisible thru the opening 25 fron 'which the time of the day may be indicated.
