EMANUEL IVILBU'RN WESTMOR-ELMIIJ, OF CHARLTTE, NORTH CAROLINA.
.ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Applicatnled October 13, 1925.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel rotary aiilvertismg device 'by means ot Which a series oi advertising cards are successively displayed; and to provide novel means for continuously operating` the device. I attain the objects of my invention by means of the apparatus illustrated in the accompanying drawings7 in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of .my inventirzin. with part voiE the casing broken aivay;
Fig. 2 is a vertical section with the rotating display card Wheel shown in side elevation;
Figi. 3 is an enlarged sectional view through one of the card holders; and
Fig. Ll is a similar vieiv oi modified disH play card holder.
Lilie numerals indicate like parts in each of the several views. s
deiierring to the aocompanyin)` drawings, I provide a pair of standards 1 supporting; the hub 8 of a revoluble double Wheel 4 carrying oppositely disposed rods 5 from which are suspended the display card holders 7 by means of staples-G. A double oil cap 2 engages over hub 3, as shown in Fig. 2.
The card holders 7, asV shown in Fig. 3, are provided with removable bottom strips 9 which support the advertising cards 8. These display cards S may bear display advertising on both sides.
Instead of removable card 8 I may provide the permanent metal card 19 as shown in the form illustrated in Fig. il on which advertising may be painted or pasted.
Atlixed to Wheel l I provide a driven pulley 10 `driven by belt 11 Which in turn is driven by the belt pulley 12 of a suitable motor 13.
The entire device is enclosed in the housing 14E which is provided With opposite Win doive 15 provided With the panes 16. I provide suitable electric bulbs 17 and reflectors 1S for illuminating` the display cards as they are brought to display position in front of the lglass panes 15. The device mayv he built any suitable size for carrying advertising cards varying from a feiv inches in Width to a card of 5 ft. X 1() tt. As both sides of the advertising card carry an advertisement the device gives double advertising space. Each device is capable of carrying a large number of display cards owingto the size of the Wheelse.
It will require but little more space to install and operate one of these large devices Serial No. 62,267.
carryin;- many ivill to vvorlr; and
apparatus as vrell as protecting it from'y the It an electric motor is used it can be set to automatically cut oil? and on at predetermined hours. rlhe card frames 7 swing 'freely on the transversel rods 5 and thus alv ys remain in a vertical position.
For a large advertising device the sheet metal cards 19 are utilized on which large posters may be pasted or signs iainted. The purpose oi this sheet metal being to reduce the total Weight of the deviceso that many cards may be used on one double Wheel Without having` excessive Weight.
The ldevice also may be built to carry very small cards for use in show Windows.
That I claim is:
1. in advertising device comprising a revoluble double Wheel, standards for supportine` the axle ot the double Wheel in an elevated position, horizontal rods mounted on the rims of the Wheel in an equally spaced relation :from each other, Adisplay card holders svvingably suspended from the aforesaid rods, the Width of the holders being less than the distance of the horizont-al rods apart from each other to permit a tree swingingl movement of the holders, display cards bearing advertising on both sides thereof mounted in the aforesaid holders, a driven Wheel atlixed to the double cardholder carrying Wheeh a source of power and means operatively connectingsaid ydriven Wheel with the source of power.
2. In combination With the apparatus described in claim 1, housing' inclosing` the aforesaid mechanism, said housing having opposite Windows to permit of viewing;` the display cards Jfrom both sides of the housing.
3. In combination With the apparatus described in claim 1, a housing' inclosing the aforesaid mechanism, said housing having opposite Windows to permit of viewing the weather.
display cards from both sides of the liousing;` and means Within the housingarranged above eaeli 0i the opposite Windows of the housing for illuminating the Cards as the),7 are moved into a position in front of the Windows ot' the housing.
4. An advertising device Comprising a revoluble double Wheel, standards for supportj ing the axle of the double Wheel in an elevated position, horizontal rods mounted in a spaced relation on tbe rims of the double wheel said rods beingV positioned at a point on the rim midway7 between the spokes ot' the Wheel, display card holders swingably suspended from the aforesaid rods, display cards bearing advertising on f both sides thereof mounted in the aforesaid holders, the holders being swing'able in vertical planes past each other, and power means for revolving the double Wheel.
