with radial strips F' sofasto form a hetten i H bearing-surface for the stub "shafts and pins that will be 'hereinafter'deseribed. H
Arranged radially on this disk or wheel are a number of counterbalanced disks G, G" and G having one side g heavier than the other, so that they will normally rest in a substantially vertical position, while the main disk F rotates.
These counter-balanced disks G, G and G are pivoted on pins 9, g and 9 as shownv most clearly in Figure 5, and advertising matter of any desired kind can be pastedor otherwise applied to the front of these disks, and
' this advertising matter will remain in a subthe same. shaft as the advertising diskK so that as the shaftD rotates, the fiXedrack'I-I will cause the various pinions J J and J to rotate, and simultaneously will rotate the a disks K, K andK The disks G, G and G stantially vertical position,-as themain disk rotates.
At the front end of the main shaft D,'I may provide a counterbalanced disk G pivoted at g to themain shaft, and cut away as at g to throw its center of gravity below its pivot,
and also to increase the attractiveness ofthe.
1 CLGSIgII.
' Concentric with the 'sh'aft D is a fixed circular rack H connected by means of the screw.
bolts I and Ito the journal bearing C, and
O ,so that the shaft may turn, but this and .K,K and K are preferably arranged in r the blocks M pivot-ally attached to the face radial groups, as shown.
Referring to Figure 1, it will be seen that I- have shown every fourth series of advertising,v disks as rotating, and the other three intermediate groups of counterbalanced. disksfree to hang vertically on their respectivepins.
Thus itwill be seen that variable motion is imparted to every fourth group ofadvertising disks Obviously every advertising group may be rotated, or every second or third set, if desired.
The advertisements may be applied directly to the face of the advertising disks ;K, K and K or may be connected thereto in any convenient way, as by meansfof of the disk, as by the zpins m,as shown in g S'fi and 7.
Thus it will be seen that as the shaft D 150-; tates carrying with it the main disk F, the disks G,G and G will hang like pendulums,
while the'disks K, K and- K willbe posi-' tively driven; and thus quite. a variegated effect may be imparted to the advertising media thatmay bedisposed on the disks.
Mounted above the platform A is a horizontally disposed rotating disk N, which car-- ri es a cone bearing N mounted on casters or rollers N so that this disk Nmay be rotated over the platform A. This disk N carries a flange P, which may be separated therefrom as by the rounded posts P, which are held in place by the screws 29, and against these rounded posts, the belt Q engages. This endless belt passes over the pulley R fastened to the shaft D, see Figures 3 and 5, and then over the idlers S,a'nd the pulleys T, see Figure 3, engaging in frictional contact with the posts P, and causing the disk N to rotate as the shaft D rotates. 5. 1
Thus it will be seen that the rotation of the shaft D will not only rotate the vertical disk F, but the horizontal disk N. This horizontal'disk N is "also" provided with advertising display arrangements, such for instance, as the'ca rd holdersll, in which the advertising plates .or cards V are detachably mounted. 1 h V e 1 i i In order to hold these cards'or' plates conveniently: in placefthe back of each may be provided with'theblooks V, which fitin the holders U, as'shown in Fig'uresland 9. A number of these-advertising cards may be mounted on th'e horizontal rotary disk N. Y
In order toprovide an element ofsurprise, I may mount outside the disk N and carried bythe platform A, a fence-like arrangement,
comprising the loops W, in which screening cards or plates X be conveniently mounted, as shown in Figures 1 and 2. These screen cards or plates may be'made of pasteboard,
metal, or the like, and may bear on their faces any advertisingjjmatter;v and obviously the plates may be changed from time to time.
' By spacing these screen cards orplates apart,as shown in Figure 1,.theadvertising card'scarried by the rotating disk N will be displayed seriatim, and thus we get a step by step view ofthe advertisements, carried by: e
the disk N. t
Obviously the loops W may be carried entirely around thefplatform asfshown in Figure 4, or they may bev carried through only part ofthe circumference of the platform. In a similar way, the 'screensX may be used to screen only the front oralimited portion of the apparatus,'as may be desired.
Obviously these screens maybe changed from time to time, or maybe moved closer together or farther'apart',so as to presenta varied'appearance from time to time. Thus it will befseen that I have provided an advertising apparatus in which advertisements'are rotated in the vertical and horizontal, plane, and are partly screened from time to time, andwhichmay be changed from time to. time. I
While' 'I have referred to the blocks or plates--G, G and G and K, K and K as disks, obviously they maybe of any desired contour, and the :terms'maller disks, as used in the claims, should be so understood While I have described one embodiment of the invention in its preferred form it will be obvious that various changes might be made in the constructlon, comblnation and arrangement of parts, whlch might be used without and means for displaying advertising matter carried by said horizontal disk.
