warren stares JOHN W. HARTOIIG, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
DISPLAY nnvron.
Application filed July 28, 1924;.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN WV. IIARTO-NG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Indianapolis, county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented a certain new and useful Display Device; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals refer to like parts.
This invention pertains to adisplay device, particularly of that type for supporting relatively heavy articles and causing them to be slowly rotated so as to be revolved and viewed by the purchasing public.
The principal object of the invention pertains to a display device of this character which is capable of supporting heavy articles.
such as furniture, ice-boxes, stoves, and the like and causing the same to be slowly revolved for observation, and which is capable of being folded up in a convenient manner for packing, shipping, or storing.
Another feature of the invention resides in the arrangement and mounting of the driving mechanism in such fashion as to eliminate the usual center drive by providing in place thereof a peripheral drive; and permit the rotation of the sustaining platform with the minimum expenditure of power without the necessity of employing a train of reduction gears.
The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims:
In the drawings Fig. 1 is the perspective view of the display device set up ready for operation. Fig. 2 is a perspective view thereof with the sustaining platform re- 'moved. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the various parts separated and in knocked down form ready for shipment.
In the drawings there is shown a rotatable display device for sustaining and rotating heavy articles of merchandise such as furni-.
ture, ice-boxes, stoves, and the like, comprising a platform 10 formed in two sections Serial No. 728,704.
tral bearing plate 14 and be secured thereon by the pivotal bolt 15.
The central bearing 14 is supported upon the base 16 mounted on one end of the arm 17. Secured rigidly on said arm there is a driving motor 118, which, through the medium of a belt 119 drives the pulley 120 which in turn drives the friction roller 121 through a worm gear 22. The friction roller 121 is mounted on the arm 17 adjacent to the outer end thereof so as to frictionally engage and drive the track for causing the rotation of the platform. V
The base is provided with radial slots adapted to receive the inner ends of the arms 18, said arms being detachable therefrom. The outer ends of the arms 18 are provided with sockets 19 for receiving the caster wheels 13, said caster wheels being mounted rotatably there-in and removable therefrom. Secured to the outer ends of said arms there are laterally extending end blocks 20 to which are pivoted the auxiliary wings 21 having a caster 13 mounted on the free ends thereof. 7
By means of this arrangement when the supporting frame is mounted ready for use, as shown in Fig. 2, the arms 17 and 18 afford four points of support for the platform, and by so positioning the auxiliary wings 21 with respect thereto, an additional four points of support are obtained. However, when it is desired to dismantle the device for shipment or storing, when the arms 18 are 9 removed from the base,'the wings 21 may be folded up adjacent the arms in a convenient manner as shown in Fig. 3, the respective rollers or casters having been removed.
The invention claimed is:
1. In a revolving display device, a removable platform, a central support for said platform, a plurality of arms connected with said central support and extending radially therefrom and provided with means for permitting the disengagement of said arms from said support, a roller on each of said arms for supporting said platform, one of said rollers being adapted to frictionally drive said platform adjacent its periphery for causing the rotation thereof, a driving motor mounted on one of said arms, and a driving connection supported by said arm between said motor and driving roller for causing the latter to be driven thereby.
2. In a rotatable display device, a revolving platform, a central support therefor, a
plurality of radially extending arms movably connected with said central support for permitting their movement from the radially extending position with respect thereto, a plurality of supporting rollers mounted on the ends of said arms for engaging and sup porting the periphery of the platform, and auxiliary Wings pivotally connected With said arms and having auxiliary rollers mounted onthe free ends thereof for engaging and supporting said platform intermediate said aforementioned rollers.
3. In a revolving display device, a rotatable, platform, a central support therefor,fa plurality of radially extending arms remov ably connected therewith, a plurality of roller supports mounted on the extreme end of said! arms for supporting the periphery of said, platform and permitting it to revolve thereon, a. plurality of auxiliary members pivotally mounted on said arms, supporting rollers on the free ends of said auxiliary members adapted to support said platform intermediate said aforementioned rollers, a driving arm extending from said central support, a frictional driving roller mounted on said arm in position to engage and rotate said platform adjacent the periphery thereof, a motor mounted on} said arm, and a driving connection supported; by said arm hetween said motor and roller for driving the SEIHIG.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto afiixed my signature.
JOHN W; HART-one.
