The invention relates to improvements in reenforced concrete fence posts.
It is an obj ect of the invention to provide a concrete post which is so reenforced that it will stand all stresses and strains to which such a post is subjected, and will not be ma.- terially affected by climatic conditions.
It is a, further object of the invention to provide improved means for reenforcing a post and to also provide means for attaching or securing` the wires of the fence to the post.
My invention is susceptible of many embodiments and in the accompanying drawings I have only shown the preferred modified forms thereof, it being understood that these disclosures are merely illustrative of others.
In the drawings- Figure l is a longitudinal section in part of the post.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the reenforce frame.
Figure 3 is a section on 3 3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a section showing` a detail of the reenforcing frame.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts, the numeral l designates the base of the post which is preferably widened and composed of concrete or similar materials. This base has an extended post portion 2 of the usual contour, also formed of concrete and preferably molded with the base l to reenforce the post, two metallic angle irons 3 are used, said irons being constructed as shown in Figure 2, which may be lbriefly described as follows: I take an angle iron of a single piece structure and bend the same intermediate its ends to provide the right angle bottom portion l and then bend the same again so as to provide the two upright or vertical reenforcing parts 3. In other words a single piece of material is nent so as to provide the two vertical reenforcing sections and the integral bottom section a which also serves to reenforce the post. I preferably use two of these angle irons in each post as shown in detail in Figure 3.
In molding the post I also form a series of transverse channels 5 passing therethrough at determined intervals which are formed by placing in the mold iron, sleeves 6 that preferably remain in the concrete when the post is removed from the mold. Through these sleeves the wire strands are passed, permitting' the wire to be attached to the post without extraneous fastening devices and at the same time the sleeves protect the concrete from being cut by the wire strands passing therethrough.
In the modified form of my invention shown in Figure fl I preferably employ the saine reenforcing angle bars herein shown to dispense with the sleeves or liners 6 and the transverse openings passing through the post. In this construction to provide a means for attaching` the wire to the post I preferably mold in the post a central strand or element composed of metal or the like, provided with integral or attached hook portions 8 extending outwardly at right angles to the central strand 7 through the concrete of the post to provide attaching devices to which the wire constitutingthe fence may be secured.
It will, of course, be understood that various changes can be made in the construction of post, that is to say, its form, contour or the like, and that the construction of the reenforcing devices may materially vary without departing from this invention.`
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
A reenforcing post, composed of concrete, having an enlarged base and a reduced upstanding extension, angle reenforcing elements extending vertically through said post, one of said elements being disposed adjacent each corner of the post, means con-V neet-ing the lower ends of said` angle members so as to maintain them in definite spaced relations in the post, said post having disposed therein in vertically spaced relation a. plurality of openings extending transversely therethrough, and interposed liners disposed within said openings.
