UNITED STATES PATENT MAX BERKO'XVITZ, OF EICHMOND HILL, YORK.
HAND-BAG CDNS'I'BI'UCTIQN.
My invention relates to a new and ini preved hand bag construction.
One of the objects 'of invention is to provide a new and improved loe-king device for a hand bag so that the said hand bag may be locked so as to expose either face thereof.
Another object of my inventi-on is to provide a looking device for a hand bag of this type which shall embody a swiveled looking member having a fastener head thereon.
Other objects of my inveiition will be set forth in the following description and drawings3 it being understood that the above statement of the objects of iny invention is nierely for purposes of illustration and is not intended to limit the said invention in any way.
The subject matter of this application is divided out of my application on which Patent No. 1,528,726 was granted ine March 3, 1925.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing the hand bag closed.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Flg. 1.
Fig. 3 shows the hand bag illustrated in Fig. 1 ut in the open condition.
Figzliis a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing the hand bag with the reverse side exposed.
Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the hand bag illustra'l'ed in Fig. 4- in the open coiidition.
Fig. 7 is a sectional detail view of the swiveled looking member.
The hand bag coinprises pocket portions l which can be made in the ordinary manner, save for the difference in the material atthe front and reverse sides thereof which will be later more fully explained. As shown iii Fig. 2, for example7 a closure flap is connected to the base of the pocket portions 1. This is preferably done by making the said closure flap of two sheets of ninterial A and B which are sewed together or connected in any other suitable manner so that the said closure flap can extend over the mouth of the pocket portion of the bag and be held in position adjacent the base of the said pocket portion by means of either of the snap members 2 located adjacent the sensi No. 722,461.
Divided and. this application filed March 2,,

base of the pocket portion, and the snap tener head 3 located upon the looking plate Llwhich is swiveled at 5 to a metal plate (5 connected to the end of the cover or Closure flap. I
The sheets of material A. and B are preferably connected only at the edges thereof by lines of .stitches S so that the Closure flap can be easily bent in both directions upon the pocket portion of the hand bag. Tn the preferred construction of the hand bag herein illustrated, the sheet of material B is continued to form one side of the pocket portion and the other sheet is continued to form the other side of the said pocket portion.
The hand bag inay be provided With tabs 7, each provided witli a snap fastener 8 by means of which it can be secured to one of the corresponding snap fasteners located in the adjacent portions of the ends of the pocket portion. The hand bag is also provided with handles 9.
If it is desired to close the hand bag so as to have the sheet of material B upon the inside thereof, then the Closure i'ilap is moved into the position shown in Fig. 2 and the snap fastener head 8 is caused to engage with one of the snap sockets 2. As clearly shown in Fig. 2, the sheet of material B can loend at the base of the pocket port-ion so as to form a reverse fold F. lf it is desired to expose the sheet of material A upon the inside of the bag, tlieii the closurellap is bent in the opposite direction as illustrated in Fig. 5.
As clearly shown in the drawings the bag is preferably of syminetrical construction throughout. Thus the bag has two socket snap fasteners 2 at the base of the pocket portion, two tabs 7 adjacent the handles 9, two snap fastener sockets co-operating with the snap fastener heads upon the said tabs 7 so that each said tab 'l' can be looked into position upon the closure llap as illustrated for example in Figs. 2 and 5. Each side of the bag is also provided with a handle 9 and the tabs 7 and handles 9 have their outsides formed of material preferably corresponding to the adjacent sheet of material A. or B so that a uniform effect is secured upon each side of the bag.
The sheets A and B inay be inade of different material or may be made of the same material with different color effects or de- 'Hii signs so that contrast can be secured by any Visual means.
I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention but it is clear that numerous changes and omissions could be made Wit-hout departing from its spirit.
I claim 1. A moVable member having mounted thereon a fastening device, said fastening device having a swiveled member With a connector portion thereon, said connector portion adapted to engage either of two cooperating connector portions When said movable member is moved to either of ltwo positions and When said swiveled member is 15 turned through 180 degrees.
2. A flap of a reversible bag, and a portion of a fastening device sWiVeled thereon, said portion adapted for cooperation With either of two cooperating connector portions When the swiveled portion is moved to either of two positions and turned through 180 degrees.
In testimony Whereof I afiix my signature.
MAX BERKOWITZ.
