COVER FOR PAPER CADDIES.
Application filed. November 19, 1923 This invention relates to improvements in paper caddies, and more particularly to a cover for the same.
it is one of the objects of the present inmotion to provide a paper caddy cover which will bindingly engage the upper portion of acaddy to prevent its easy removal therefrom.
A further object of the in 'ention is to provide a paper caddy cover formed from a square or rectangularly shaped blank and so constructed that none of the blank is wasted.
A further object of the invention is to provide a paper caddy cover in which the side flanges will exert a pressure on the portion of the caddy engaged thereby.
A further object of the invention is to provide a paper caddy cover which requires but a verv few operations in the production as set forth in the claims and all equivalents thereof. I
In the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views:
1 is a plan view 01 the improved cover attached to a paper caddy;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view of a blank illustrating the manner of forming the cover;
Fig. 3 is a franientary view of a blank used in iorn'iing the cover, after the side flanges have been folded into position;
Fig. 4. is a side view of the improved cover with one end flange unsecured to illustrate details of construction;
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary detail view to illustrate the means for securing the cover flanges;
Fig. 6 is an enlarged fragmentary detail view showing the tongue and slot connection between the extremities of the cover flanges; and
Fig. 7 is a vertical sectional view of the caddy and cover taken on line 7-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, it will be seen Serial No. 675,621.
that the numeral 10 represents a blank from which the caddy cover is formed. Said blank may be square or rectangular in shape to conform with the shape oi the caddy witl which it is to be used.
In forming the caddy cover, the end portions of the blank are slit, as at 11 and 12, and medially of the length of said slits, there are angularly cut portions 13. The portions of the blank adjacent the angularly cut portions 13 form tongues 14-. The sides 15 of the blank are adapted to be folded downwardly and at right angles to the major portion of the blank, along the scored or told lines 16. The corner portions 17, separated from the ends by the slits 11, are then folded along the score lines 18. at right angles to the sides 15.
The end portions 19 are adapted to be twice folded. The outer portions are first folded upon the adjacent inner portions along the lines 20 and then the entire end portions are folded along lines 21 so as to be positioned at right angles to the plane of the major portion of the blank. Thus, it will be seen that the ends of the cover are of double thickness, having the outer layer 22 and the inner layer 23, as shown in Fig. 7. The corner portions 17 are positioned between the layers of the ends and the tongues 14 are pushed through U-shaped slots 2 formed in the sides. In this manner the sides and enos oi the cover are held in their down turned positions.
In use, when the cover is placed on a caddy 25, the inner layers 23 of the ends 01. the cover will bear tightly against the sides of the box, thereby preventing easy removal of the cover and also iorn'iing a substantially air-tight connection. This is due to the fact that the inner layers 23 have been folded along lines 20 and the tendency of said layers 23 is to unfold and hence they press against the sides of the caddy.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the improved cover for paper caddies is of very simple and novel construction, and is well adapted for the purpose described.
lVhat I claim as my invention is:
1. As a new article of manufaeti're, a blank for forming a container cover, consisting of a piece of material of unbroken rectangular shape and having corner slits to permit the portions of said blank adjacent lines of fol, said tongues hold Elie side and end flanges toge her all of said tongues and slots being with] J t blank.

As a new article or" manufacture, a blank for forming a container cover, consisting ot a piece of material oi? unlu-oken rectangular shape and having corner slits to permit the portions ot said blank adjacent the edges to be folded at right angles to the plane of the blank to form side and end tla tor said blank, said blank having sidewise and end creases therein to facilitate the folding oi the sides and ends, said corner slits iaving angularly out parts forming tongues thereadjacent, and said sides having slots formed in alineinent With some of the end creases to receive said tongues to hold the side and end flanges together, all of said tongues and sets being within the edges of the blank.
its a blank "for article of nnnuitaeture, a forming a container eoi er, consisting of a piece of material of unbroken rectangular shape and having corner slits to permit the portions of said blank adjacent the edges to be folded at right angles to the plane (it the blank to form side and end flanges for the blank, said blank having a crease adj: cent each side thereof to facilitate the folding of "he blank sides, and pairs of spaced, parallel creases adjacent the ends of the blank to pernnt the blank ends to be each side thereof to facilitate and pairs of 0 blank, said blank having; a
