with the detailed construction of the blank as a unit, from which the completed container may be readily and quickly formed, with the parts so interlocked as to insure the integrity of the package until actual separation or unlocking of the parts is directly resorted to.
The blank as a whole is readily constructed at a. sin gle stamping or cutting operation, and presents no obstructing parts. so that the blanks may be shipped or stored as such in mmparativcly small compass until desired for use. i
The invention isillustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the preferred form of box or container in completed and closed relation.

\Vith particular reference to Figs. 1, 2, and 3, the box there shown is formed of a single blank of appropriate size, having weakened lines of fold at each side edge, as at 1, and at each end edge, as at 2, to define the bottom section 3 of the box. The blank in parallelism with the lines of. weakening 1 and 2 is further formed with lines of weakening 4 and 5,'spaced from the lines of weakening 1 and 2, to define the side and end edges of the box, as 6 and 7, respectively. The blank is extended beyond the end edges 7, to form flaps 8, which while of the full width of the box are somewhat less than one-half the length thereof. The blank is extended beplan of a blank of a modified yond the side edges 6 to form closure flaps 9, which are of the full length of the box and ap E-oximately one-half the width thereof.
e flaps 9 are cut-011 at their free corners on diagonal lines 10, and the edges thus presented are integrall provided with locking tongues '11, having ook terminals 12. The flaps 8 are formed at appropriate points with slots 13 to'receive the tongues 11.
The box of this form is made up by folding along the lines of weakenin described, and after the flaps 8 are folded own on the contents of the box,'the closure flaps 9 are a plied, and their tongues interlocked with't e slots of the flaps. The box is thus secure, and the lockin tongues are engaged sufliciently inwardly mm the edge of the box to insure a holding effect even under airough handling of the box.
In the form of box shown in Figs. 5,- 6, and 7, the principle of the box described in the preferred form is maintained, though the relative sizes of the parts is somewhat varied. In this form the blank is scored or weakened along lines 14 and 15 at the sides and ends to form the bottom 16, and also on parallel lines thereto, as at 17 and 18 to form the side and end walls of the box. The end flaps 19 are formed as continuations of the end walls, while the closure flaps 20 are continuations of the side walls. The closure flaps have the diagonal corners 21, with the hooked tongues 22, adapted to engage with slots 23 in the flaps 19. In this form the flaps are of less than the full width of the box, so when thebox is assembled, as indicated in Fig. 6, an open space is left centrally of the box, as at 24.
In the form of box shown in Figs. 8 and 9, the general blank construction is the same as that previously described, except that additional reinforce portions are provided. In this form, intended to be used with larger and deeper'boxes, the blank is weakened on lines 25, defining the box bottom, and on parallel lines 26, defining the side and end walls 27 and 28. The end-walls 28 are continued to form flaps 29, which are of a lengthequaling half of the length of thecompleted box. The side walls 27 are continued to form closure flaps 30, adapted to be folded over onto the flaps 29. The free corners of the closure flaps are cut away and formed with projecting locking tongues 31, and the blank in hne with that edge of each closure flap adjacent to the side walls is formed to provide locking extensions 32, which are integral with the closure flaps and divided from the flaps 29. These lockin extensions 32 are divided from the closure aps by lines of weakening 33 in line with the side edges thereof, so that in folding such extensions may be turned at right angles to the flaps.
In folding this form of blank, the side and end edges are turned up into proper relation to the blank bcttom, the closure flaps turned slightly inward, and the securing of this relation maintained by engaging the locking extensions 32in slots 34: in the end walls 28, the extensions lying on the outer sides of the end walls. The flaps 29 are then positioned and the closure'flaps bent down into proper relation, the locking tongues 31 engaging slots 35 in the closing flaps.
In all forms of boxes here described the blank is readily-cut and until desired for use may be maintained in a flat condition, permitting a large number of such blanks to be packed in small compass. YVhen assembled in box-forming relation, the parts are readily secured, and remain in an intact and practically inseparable relation until openingis'desired.
Of course the box may be constructed of any appropriate material and in any desired size, though it is contemplated that the construction is more particularly-adapted for carrying merchandise or purchase, where the box is not subjected to extreme strain, but must be sufliciently rigid for the purpose desired.-
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
A paper box formed from a blank foldable to define a bottom, side walls and end walls, flaps integral with'and folding from the end walls inwardly to seat over the contents of the box, said flaps being equal in length to the lengthof the end walls, closure flaps formed inte ral with the side walls and folding thereii'om over the first named flaps and formed for interlocking engagement therewith when in closed relation, each side wall immediately adjacent the end wall being formed with extensions integral with theside wall portion and arranged to overlie the end wall and cover the junction of the end walls with the side walls and for a distance therebeyond equivalent to the distance from the side edges of said closure flaps to their points of interlocking engagement with said first named flaps, whereby the side and end walls of the box are braced at their corners and end edges, said extensions being formed for interlocking engagement with the end walls substantially in alignment with the interlocking engagement of said flaps.
