* Application filed June 5, 1925/ Serial 35,189.
This invention relates to filing devices and has for its object the provision of a storage file box which is of such construction that it may be shipped or stored in flat orv knocked down condition and subsequently set up by the user to define a receptacle for'filing purposes, the collapsibility being of distinct importance in reducing transportation charges as will be obvious.
b An important ob'ect is the provision of a file'box which may be constructed of cardboard or other suitable flexible sheet mate rial, the cardboard being cut and scored so maintain the contents in good condition.
An additional object is to provide a device of this character which willbe simple and inexpensive in manufacture, easy to set up and use, positive in action, efiicient and durable in service, and a general improvement in the art.
With the above and other objects and ad vantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the com plete device in set up condition,
Figure 2 is an end elevation looking at the,
rear of the drawer section,
Figure 3 is a cross section on the line 33 of Figure 1, V
Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view through the drawer section alone showing the cover thereof partly open,
Figure 5 is a detail 'cross section showing certain securing means,
Figure 6 is a detail verticalsectio'n showing the mounting for the drawer pull or handle, i i f v Figure 7 is a View of the blank from which the drawer section is formed,
Fi ure 8 is a view of the blank from which the s ell section is formed.
Referring more particularly to the drawan outer or shell section 10 and an inneror drawer section, 11 having telescopic engagement within the shell section.
, The section 10 is intended to be formed from a single elongated rectangular sheet12 of cardboardor the like, which blank is scored along the lines 13 so as'to be readily folded to define a rectangular enclosure, the
meeting edges being'joined by means of a strip of gummed paper, cloth or the like indicated at 14.
from a single blank of cardboard or the like including a main or body portion 15 and a The drawer section 11 is likewise formed reduced portion 16. At opposite ends the body portion 15 is slit at 17 and is transversely scored along the, lines 18 as well as longitudinally scored along the lines 19,
these latter mentionedlines and the slits 17 being all in line with the edges of the reduced portion 16. The outer or free end portion of the part 16 is transversely scored along the line 20. To form this blank into a drawer requires that it be folded along the lines 18 and 19 andthat the corner portions 21 be then folded to lie against the inner faces of the ends 22 defined between the slits 17 and lines 18. The ends of these corner portions 21 will lie in abutting relation as I v shown in Figure 8 and securing atone end of the drawer is effected by means of a horizontally disposed staple 23 of wire or the like inserted through the corner portions and V end 22 most remote from the extension'16. The extension 16 is. folded on the line 20 and also along the line 24c so that the exten sion 16 or reduced portion will constitute a top or cover for the drawer. The corner portions 21 adjacent the extension 16 are secured against the inner face of the adjacent end portion 22 defined between the lines 18 and24 and intersecting slits 17 by means of horizontally spaced staples 25. or the like, clearly shown in Figure 6, which addition-ah ly serve as pivotal mountings for a drawer pull or handle 26.
- The extension or reduced portion 16 serves as the top as above mentioned and the end portion 27 thereof defined between the free end and the line 20' extends outwardly of the rear end wall of. the drawer and carries a button 28 about which may be engaged a cord 29 secured to a similar button 30 on the its rear end of the drawer, this cord being brought back and forth about the two buttons in a well known manner.
Assuming that the two sections have been assembled as above described, it will be seen that the drawer is readily insertible within and removable from the shell so that access may be had to the contents whenever desired. ()wing to the provision of the cover for the drawer it is clear that dust and dirt and also insects will be excluded and the contents of the device be maintained in proper and satisfactory condition all times.
dfhile E have shown and described, the preferred embodiments of tie invention, it should be nndersl ood that I reserre the right to make snea changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts as will not de )art from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus d scribed the invention, I
claim:
1. A orage file con'iprising a collapsible shell of rectangular formation, and av collapsible drawer telescopically en 'ae'ed within the shell and having its ends flush with the ends thereof, the drawer being formed with a cover hinged at its forward end and detachably connected atits other end.
ii device of the character described comprising a shell formed from a single blank ol sheet material scored at'int-erva-lsland- "foldable into shape, and a drawer telescopically engaged within the shell and formed from asingle blank of sheet material, said second named blank including a main portion and a reduced extension, the main portion being cut at its ends and scored longitudinally and transversel v whereby to be capable of 'lolc ing to define a receptacle, securing members passing through the ends and corner portions of the receptacle, a. combined securing member and a drawer pull at one end of the receptacle, said reduced extension constituting a cover and being provided with means for detachably holding it in place.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
