The present invention relates -to com bination chair-beds and hasfor its primary object the provision of convertiblc chair whereby the same may be rcadily arranged in the form of a bed when found desirable, the entire structure being compactly foldablewhen not in use. Another very important object of the device'is the provision of a foldable piece of furniture adapted for assuming the form of a chair, the bottom of which is extensible and the back of which is extensible.

Another very important object of the invention is the provision of a foldable piece of furniture adapted for assuming the form of a bed, the length of which may be adjustcd.

A further important object of the inventicn is the provision of a foldable chair and bed structure that possesses great strength, and is comfortable and serviceable when not in use, the same being also easy and inexpensive to manufacture.

A still furtherimportant object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, efficient and reliable in use, easy to manipulate, not likely to-casily become out of order, attractive in appearance, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

WVith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the descrip-' tion proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. v

A canvas or the like seat 16' is stretched between the bars 9 and the sides and intermediate portion of the frame 13 by means of twine 17. A leg supporting structure C is pivotally engaged with the frame 13 adjacent its intermediate portion. Chains 19 are attached to the frame 13 end are engageahle with hooks 20 provided on the bars 9; so that the back frame 13 may be disposed; in the same plane with the frame- 5 or at an angle thereto to form a reclining couch or chair, as is indicated to. advantage 22 and the sides thereof'are slotted as at 23.

The construction, operation. and .utility, as well as the advantages of this invention will now be clearly understood without a more detailed description thereof. It is desired, however, to point out I designed the present structure particularly for use by automobile tourists, as the structure is very useful as a bed, reclining couch, and furthermore, is capable of being compactly folded in order that it will not take up much rooin in the automobile when not in use.

Of course, the device'is capable of different other and desirable usages which I need not enume ate herein. The present our bodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail merely hv way of example since I a in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statei'nent of the invention and the above description. It will be apparent that. numer ous changes in the details oteonstruction, and in the materials, in the-sizes and in the combination and arrangemenhor the parts nlay be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed, or sacrificing any of its ad 'antages. 1

Having thus described my invention. what I claim as new is t- 1. A. combination chair-bed including, in combination. a bottom frame, bars slidably mounted on the sides of the frame, a back 'l'raine hinged to the bars, leg supporting structures, one hinged to the bottom frame, one hinged to the bars, and one hinged to the back frame, each leg supporting structure including a base plate having a pair of legg'srising on. an incline therefrom and tern'iinating in loops merging into extensions transversely disposed to the legs.
