UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NIOKOLAUS STEFFENS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOWER-FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.158, 538, dated January 5, 1875; application filed December 9, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NIGKOLAUS STEFFENs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Flower-Frames, ofwhich the following is a specification:
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 shows a top view. Fig. 2 is a sectional side view. v
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to the construction of frames representing various figures or objects, such as crowns, &c.,-which are intended to be filled with flowers; and consists in constructin g thefra-me of. metallic wire, bent and connected together, so as to present a flat figure, and so as to form a series of spaces, by which means I obtain a frame of great strength and durability, and one which can be filled and divested of its contents with great facility. In the drawing, the letter A designates a figure representing a crown, constructed according to my invention. a b are lateral wires, located one within the other, and the outer one of which is bent so as to form a cross, B, on the top of the crown. The wires a b are four in number, two of each, which are held together above each other by transverse wires .0, and are connected by means of bottom wires (I. These bottom wires d serve to support the flowers in an upright direction when they are arranged in the frame, while the wires-a b support them laterally, as hereinafter described. The lateral wires a b are symmetrical, so that between them is formed a symmetrical space,
0. In the center of the crown is a wire, 0, bent in the form of acone, whereby the space within the inner lateral wire I) is divided into two, marked D D, while by the cone 0 is formed a third space, E. Through the medium of these various spaces, 0 D D E, I am enabled to fill the frame with difl'erent kinds of flowers, and with the greatest facility, inasmuch as when one space is filled its contents are held up while I proceed to fill the next space. I am, furthermore, enabled to arrange the flowers with the best possible effect, and, if desired, remove the flowers of one space Without disturbing those of the adjoining space. By the use of metallic wires I obtain a frame of great strength, and which can be used a great number of times without danger of dem olition.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a flower'frame, the lateral wires a 1), arranged about in a line with each other, and connected together, one within the other, by transverse wires 0 and bottom wires d, to form a crown shaped figure,in combination with the interior wire 6, substantially as described, whereby is created the compartments 0 D D E, as and for the purpose specified.
2. In afloWer-frame, the Wires a b, constructed and arranged, one within the other. to form a crown-shaped figure, the outer one of said wires being bent to form a cross or other suitableshaped figure on top of the crown, and all connected together by wires 0 d, substantially in the manner shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 5d day of September, 1874.
NIOKOLAUS STEFFENS.
