IMPROVEMENT IN FINGER-RINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152.789, dated July 7, 1874 application filed April '25, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES ANNIN, of Le Boy, in the county of Genesee and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Finger-Rings, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a spring fillingpiece, to spring into the ring inside of the finger after it is put on the finger, to fill up the slack space and make the ring fit the finger closer above the joint, and secure it against being lost, the filling-piece being provided with points, to spring into sockets or indentations in the ring, to hold it in place; or it may have clips to overlap the edges of the ring.
Figure l is a sectional elevation of the ring and fillingpiece, taken in the lengthwise direction of the ring; and Fig. 2 is a cross-section.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
A represents the ring, and B the fillingpiece. The filler is about half the length of the ring, more or less, and bent nearly, but not quite, to the same curvature, to be sprung a little when put in, and holditself in by pressing the little stud G into indentations in the inner face of the ring.
The filler may be secured by clips, embracing the edges of the ring; but in this case it would require to be made a little longer than half a circle. Probably the studs and indentations will be the best.
Besides filling up the ring, so as to prevent it from being lost ofl' the finger, the fillingpiece will also serve to avoid the necessity of cutting and shortening rings to fit, which is expensive, andthe heat employed in soldering them together again endangers the diamonds and other stones set in the rings.
In the case of persons having unusually large fingerjoints, the .filler will save the necessity of wearing a guard-ring, which would otherwise be required, however well the ring may be fitted by cutting and shortening.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with a finger-ring, of a detachable spring filling-piece, B, constructed substantially as described, for the purpose set forth.
JAMES ANNIN.
