Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN R. REED, OF VVESTFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR COFFlN-RAILS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,404, dated January 15,1878; application iiled January 3, 1878. [Term of Patent 3, years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHN R. REED, of Vesteld, county of Hampden, State of Massachusetts, have originated and designed a Pattern for the Side Rails of Coflins, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making partfof this specification.
A A, Figures 1 and 2, represent the ornainented tips of my side rail, the rail being broken at B B forconveniencein representing it. C C C are portions of the rail, having the angular external shape shown in the section, Fig. 3, or having more or less angles-that is to say, seven, or ve, or four sides, instead of six, as represented. D D are cylindrical portions designed to serve as handles, by which the coffin is carried. Fig. 4 shows a section of the same. E E E E are connecting-pieces (shown in section in Fig. 5) for uniting the differentshaped parts U and D, which, heilig made of pipe, are put together in sections.
The tips A A and the connecting-pieces may be changed somewhat in shape without destroyin g the eiect of my design, since the promt nent characteristics are to be found in the alternate angular and cylindrical surfaces.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a side rail for collins, its eX- terior surfaces heilig composed of alternate angular and cylindrical portions, connected and tipped, substantially as represented in the drawing.
JOHN R. REED.
