MATHEW F. BOLAND, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN ATTACHMENTS OF BELLS TO HAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,463-dated January 5, 1875 application tiled December 10,- 1874.
To all whom item y concern:
Be it known that I, MATHEW F. BOLAND, of the city and county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Attachment of Bells to Hames; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact' description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view, representing my invention; and Fig. 2 a sectional view.
Similar letters of reference in the accompanying drawings denote the same parts.
My invention has for its object to attach bells to the hames of car-horses, 850., in a more simple, durable, and cheap manner than heretofore; and to this end it consists in extending the metallic band of the hame above the upper end of the latter, and bending it so as to form a bridge, adapted to surround the bell and hold it securely, as I will now proceed to describe. v
In the drawings, A represents the hame, and B the usual metallic strap or band extending along the outer edge. The strap or band B is prolonged above the upper end of the hame, and bent into a bridge, 0, preferably of such shape as to fit the contour of the bell D, the end of the strap or band B being riveted to the opposite side of the hame, as shown in Fig. 1. The bell D is attached to the upper portion of the bridge O by a set-screw, or other suitable device. and issurrounded, and partially protected, by the bridge.
This arran gemeut is exceedingly cheap, simple, and strong. The expense of bending the band B, and riveting it on the opposite side ot' MATHEW F. BOLAND. Witnesses:
J 0s. GWYNN, RICHARD W. BOLAND.
