This invention relates to devices used for cleaning surfaces, and more particularly for cleaning windows after painting.
()ne of the objects of this invention is to provide a device in which the blade of socalled safety-razorscan be used, having a handle member and having clampin means by which the razor-blade can be firmly held.
Another object is to provide a device of this type with yieldingly connected clamping means on a handle.
another object is to provide a yieldingly connected clan'iping-end on a handle with controlling means of an elastic nature, as a spring, interposed between the handle and the yielding clamping member.
Other objects will appear from the following description and appended claims as well as from the accompanying drawing, in whicl Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a scraper of a simple form embodying this invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary section similar to the one illustrated in Fig. 2, having a flat or leaf-spring for controlling the yielding blade-holder instead of coil-springs indi-' cated in Figs. 1, 2 and f.
Fig. at is a cross section through the bladeholder and the blade on line l4=of Fig. 1.
In painting windows it is quite a task and practically impossible to avoid getting paint over the glass in the window, and it is a common practice to remove the paint from the glass of the window, after the painting by scraping, for which purpose worn-out razonblades are very useful.
One of the principal objects of this invention is therefore to provide a practical, useful, and handy tool, by which such razor-blades can be used more readily and easily.
As illustrated in the drawing, the razorblade 5 is disposed between two hingedly connected plates 6 and 7. The hinge-pivot 8 is formed by the ends of the wire 9. This wire 9 is mounted in a handle 10, Other wires 11 are secured to the first-named wire 9 at 12, as by soldering, welding, or in any other similar suitable manner. The free ends 13 of the wires 11 extend over the blade holder, formed by the plates 6 and 7, and are spaced above the holder, an that SCRAPER.
Application filed April 6, 1925. Serial No. 21,163.
springs 14 can be disposed between the holdor and the ends 13.
The springs 1 1 have the tendency to force the holder with the inserted blade 5 downwardly, however allowing a yielding of the holder with the blade when the handle is pressed downwardly in excess of the normal tension of the springs, thereby preventing to, a great extent a scratching or marring of the window-glass. i
A screw 15 1's provided for clamping the two plates 6 and 7 together, and thereby causing a firm holding of the razor-blade 5, making an exchange of the razor-blade easy and convenient.
To facilitate a quickand proper locating of the razor-blade betweenthe two plates 6 and 7, small pins 16 are preferably pro vided, as illustrated in Fig. 1, to engage in the perforations of such razor-blades.
A slightly modified form of yielding means between the handle and the razorblade-holder is illustrated in Fig. 3, in form of a flat or leaf-spring 17. Such and other slight modifications can, of course, easily be arranged within the spirit and. scope of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim:
1. In a scraper, a blade-holder, a handle having means to movably connect the bladeholder to the handle, and elastic means between the blade-holder and the handle to allow a yielding of the movably connected blade-holder in relation to the handle.
2. In a scraper, a blade-holder, a handle embodying means for hingedly connecting with the blade-holder and other means to extend to a point over the hingedly connected blade-holder, and yielding means between the handle and the holder.
3. In a scraper, a blade-holder consisting of hingedly connected members between which a scraping blade can be firmly held and means, for firmly holding the hingedly connected members clamped together, a liandle embodying means for connecting with the hinge of the blade-holder and means to extend to a point over the hingedly connected blade-holder, and yielding means between the handle and the holder.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention 1 have sinned in name.
