Description
May 11 1926. 1,584,208 w. s. BELLOWS saws WRENCH Filed July so, 1923 Patented May 11, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WARREN S. BELLOWS, 0F WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGINOR TO WALDE N- VTOECESTER, INCORPORATED, 0F WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION 031 MASSACHUSETTS.
BRACE WRENCH.
Application filed July 30,
This invention relates to wrenches of the socket type in which a plurality of sizes are provided in one socket.
It is one of the objects of the invention to assemble a. plurality of sockets having nut engaging surfaces of different sizes and shapes upon the same wrench support in order to have them readily available for use and conserve the users time.
Another object of this invention is to provide a socket with a new combination of sizes and shapes whereby a more efficient wrench is produced.
A further object is to provide a brace wrench carrying a wrench socket at each end, and each socket provided with two or more nut engaging portions of different size and shape.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent as the description of the invention proceeds.
Referring now to. the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a preferred embodiment of the invention,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view, partially in section, of the brace and sockets.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of one of the sockets broached to two sizes.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of another socket carrying different. shaped broachings.
The brace 1 carries the usual offset crank arms 2, which provide a hand grip 8, therebetween; the other hand grips 4 and 4., at each end of the brace, are .provided with collars 5 and 5 which are loose on the brace so they can be held firmly in the hand while the brace is being turned by the crank 2. The collars 5 and 5 are held against longitudinal movement on the shaft by the rings 6 at their inner ends which are fixed upon the brace and by the sockets 7 and 8 at the outer ends.
1923. Serial No. 654,676.
The sockets 7 and 8 are shaped with flat sides 99 which fit upon the correspondingly shaped ends of the brace 1, so as to turn with the brace, and arepermanently attached thereto.
The socket 7 may comprise an inner hexagonal breaching 10 and an outer and larger octagonal broa'ching 11, adapted re spectively to hexagonal and octagonal nuts.
The broachings may be any size desired or may be of other combinations of shapes than the ones illustrated so as: to fit variously shaped nuts.
The socket 8 is provided with an inner hexagonal breaching 12 of any desired size and is provided with an outerbroaching 13 shaped as illustrated like a circle with two flat sides 14-.
Various modifications can be made Without departing from the spirit of the inven tion or the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A brace wrench including two shanks and an offset handle, a socket member on each shank, one socket having an inner hexagonal-shaped cavity and an outer octagonal-shaped cavity, the other socket havlng an inner hexagonal-shaped cavity and an outer partially round cavity.
2. A brace wrench including two shanks and an offset handle, a sleeve rotatably mounted on each shank, a socket member on each shank, one socket having an inner hexagonal-shaped cavity and an outer octagonal-shaped cavity, the other socket having an inner hexagonal-shaped cavity and an outer partially round cavity.
In testimony whereof I have afliXed my signature to this specification.
WARREN s. BELLOWS.
