IMPROVEMENT lN SLIDES FOR EXTENSION-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.158,307, dated December 29, 1874; application filed September 21, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES PLEUKHARP, of Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Extension-Slide for Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following is'a full, clear, and exact description of the same, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of slides connected by my improved device. Fig. 2 represents end views of the slides. Fig. 3 represents cross'sectio'nal and perspective views of the device for connecting the slides.
The invention consists in the form or construction of the casting or device for connectin g the grooved slides. a
In the drawing, each of the slides A G has oppositely'inclined shallow grooves 12 b in one side thereof, and the central slide B has such grooves in both sides. The castings a are essentially of right-angular form, with an en larged base, 0. They are fitted in dovetailed grooves of slides A and B, and their projecting portions z' fit and slide in the grooves b I), as shown, thus locking the three slides together, yet allowing lengthwise movement.
Substantially this construction and arrangement of parts have been previously employed.
The novel feature of my invention is the acuteangled projection 0, formed on the back and lower portion of the castings, and pro vided with a notch, r. The latter is to receive the pin, nail, or screw by which the castings are secured in the dovetailed grooves, so as to prevent their being drawn out or moved lengthwise of the same. It also subserves the function of strengthening the casting at the point where it is weakest and most liable to break when the slides are subjected to a considerable pressure, as they frequently are in actual use.
What I claim is- The right-angular castings or slide-connecting pieces a, provided with the rear projecting portion 0, having a notch, r, as and for the purpose specified.
