UNITED STATES PATENT orricE.
WENDELL H. PHELPS, or New YORK, N. Y.
EMERGENCY-@ALL DEVICE.
Application filed March 10, 1924. Serial No. 698,210.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WENDELL H. Piiiiirs,
. a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Emergency-Call Device, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description.
Thisinvention relates to improvements in.
emergency call devices and has for one of its objects to provide a device of simple and inexpensive construction which may be attached to any convenient part Lof the eX- terior of a building, such as a door frame or the like, and Vwhich contains information` necessary to the making of. emergency calls of various characters, the information being available when one ofthe parts of the device is detached from another.
The above andother objects will appear more clearly from the following detailed description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the 1n- Yventive idea.
In the drawing- Figurel is a front elevation of the device constructed in accordance with the invention:
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the interior of the removable member of the device;
Figure 4 is a plan view of the xed base member; and
Figure l5 is a section on the line 5 5 of Figure 1.-
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing, the numeral 6 indicates the hase member of the devicewhicli is fixed to a suitable support, such as a door frame or the like, by fasteners or screws 7 The base member, which, is made of any suitable material, is of rectangular. formation and provided with the sides 8, bottoin9 and the top 10, the latter of which is formed with a depending retaining flange 11.
The removable member 12 of the device,
i which is of substantially the same configuration as the base member 6 and made of the same material, isy adapted to be mounted in thev base member V6 with the top 13 ofsaid member 12 in engagement with the top 10 of the member 6 and the sides 14.- of the member 12 nested within the sides 8 of the base member. vWhen in this position the flange 11 overlaps the top edge of the member 12, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, thereby retaining the member 12 in positoii within thek base member. At the bottom of the member 12 the same is provided with an eXtension 15 forming a grip which progects downwardly beyondn the bottom 9 of the member 6 so that the extension may be grasped and the lower portion of the member 12 pulled outwardly to detach saidinember from engagement with the Abase member.
The free edges of the sides 14 of the inember 12 are instruck to provide a plurality of card retaining portions 16, the inner edges of which are spaced from the inner face of themember 12 sufficiently to receive a plurality of cards 17 between said inner edges and face, wherebyA the cards are retained in proper position in said member 12. The outermost card 17 and the remaining cards if desired, have suitablyk printed on the face thereof data which will enable any one to. get into communication with the owner of a' is removed the topvca-rd 17n may be takeny hold of at a point coincident with the location of the extension 15. c The end of the vcard may then be flexed slightly after which the same may be slidably withdrawn from behind the portions 16. It is to be noted that the bottom end of the member 12 is divided at the extension 15, which permits the'card to be removed to be readily gripped.
That is claimed is: A device of the class described comprising La basemember capable of being permanently secured to a support and having marginal flanges', one of said flanges havinga depending retaining portion, acard carrier having marginal fianges. and instruck card retaining portions and a finger piece, said l card Carrier being of a size to t Within the connes of the flanges of said base member with the anges of said carrier in retaining engagement with the flanges of said base member and with a portion of said Card Carrier n engagement with said depending retaining portion to hold said card carrier removably associated with said base member, said {i1-ger piece extending beyond the adjacent portion of said base member when said card carrier and base member are associated to provide a means for the removal o'f said ard carrier.
