Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE HORATIO VVILLARD, OE INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELE AND GEORGE S. WEBSTER, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN LOCKS FOR FURNITURE, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,160, dated December 22,1874; application led w November 10, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HoRATIo WILLAED, of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State or Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in FurniturefLocks and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this speciiication.
My invention relatesl to that class of locks which are used on furniture; and it consists in a novel mode of attaching the spring to the cap, as will be hereinafter more fully set fort-h.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to de scribe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in Which- Figure l is a face view of my lock, and Fig. 2 is a view or' the cap removed.
A represents the ordinary L-sliaped lock` plate for furniture-locks. B is the cap, and
O the bolt, allV constructed substantially in the usual way. The cap B is struck up from a single piece of sheet metal by suitable dies, and in the side back of the bolt, near the top,
are cut two slots, forming a tongue, a, between them. D represents a dat spring, the upper end of which is passed along the slotted side on the interior of the cap, and on the outside of the tongue a, whereby the spring is irmly attached to the cap B. The lower end of the spring D has a direct bearing upon the lower part of the bolt, and insures the bolt to always drop into its place at: the bottom of the cap. The spring is more elastic and less liable to break than when arranged as is generally the case in this class of locks,
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the lock-plate A, bolt C, cap B, slotted, as described, to form the tongue a, and the spring D, attached to the cap, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HORATIO VILLARD.
Witnesses:
GEORGE S. WEBSTER, JAMES BEoDEN.
