Description

April 13 1926. 1,580,820
F. J. GENSICKI MECHANICAL TOY Filed August 20 1925 INVENTOR.
Patented Apr, 13, 1926.
UNETED STATES FRANK JOHN GENSICKI, OF BRIDGEPORT, PIEJ\TI\TSZ'LVANIA.
THEOHANICAL TDY.
Application filed August 20, 1925. Serial No. 51,488.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, FRANK JOHN GEN- sioni, citizen of Poland, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Mechanical Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to in'iproveincnts in toys, particularly figure toys, and it is the principal object of theinvention to provide a figure toy in the form of the representation of two men operating a saw, the articulated limbs of the operators executing a muliitude of movements greatly contributing to the amusement and entertainment of children.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a figure toy in form of a band saw operated by the representation of two men, in which the legs of one of the operators are mounted in a novel and distinct manner for imparting to the body and the limbs a plurality of amusing movements.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a figure toy of this character of simple and inexpensive construction, adapted to be operated by means of a spring equipped with suitable connections to impart to the body and limbs of the two operators of the saw a multitude of highly amusing motions simulating the motions made by real operators.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and, will then be specifically defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing, material part of this disclosure:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a figure toy constructed according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a section through the operating mechanism on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary rear elevation, partly in section. of the lower limbs of one of the figures, seen in the direction of the arrows 3-3 of Figure 1.
A frame comprising a bottom plate or base 10, vertical standards or posts 11 and 12, and a top plate 13, carries near the rear part on said top plate a casing 14 in which a spring motor is arranged supplying the driving power for the toy figures.
A shaft 15, journaled in the Walls of the forming a casing carries within the same a large gear 16 revolving within and an extension of the casing, designated 17, and in mesh with a gear 18 on a shaft 19 which carries also the spring drum 20, and a ratchet wheel 21 in which a pawl 22 engages in the usual well known manner.
The end of shaft 19 extends beyond the outer wall of the casing, and carries a winding key 23..
One end of shaft projects out of the casing and carries a fly wheel 24 having a pin-inits lateral face, designated 24, which one end of an operating arm 25 is attached, the opposite end of which is attached to a rack bar 26, adapted to reciprocate in a suitable guide 27 attached to the frame.
The lower limb or log of the figure 23, representing one of the operators, is pivotally attached, as at 29, to a post So secured at its lower end to the top plate 13.
The foot 31 of this limb has-made integrally therewith a curved rack 32, the teeth of which mesh with a similar rack bar 26,
The other leg of the figure has its lower part pivoted, as at 33, to the upper part, and its foot 34 is pivotally secured to a pin 35 in a bracket 36. The upper part of this leg is pivotally attached, as at 38, to the body and has an extension 39 to which is pivotally secured, as at 40, the lower end of a bar 41 having its upper end pivotally attached, as at 42, to a link 43 pivoted at its opposite end to the pivot 44 of the arms 45 of the figure, the hands of which grasp the handle 46 of a saw 47, the teeth of which engage a block 48 on top plate 13. The lower end of the band saw 47 has a handle 49 grasped by the hands of a figure 50 standing below figure 28 on base plate 10, and having its arms pivotally attached, as at 51,
' to the body, while its upper leg parts are pivotally attached, as at 52, 53 to the lower leg parts.
It will be clear that upon starting the spring motor, the reciprocating operation of the rack 26 will be communicated to the curved rack bar 32 and compel the legs and body of Figure 28 and the arms thereof to execute a number of motions in the various directions indicated by the arrows in Figure 1. simulating the various movements of two men operating a band saw to the great amusement and entertainment of children.
It will be understood. that while I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention as an example, the same may be subjected to many changes in its general arrangement and in the construction of its minor details without departure from the scope of the appended claims and the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a figure toy simulating two men op eratinga band comprising an elevated platform, the representation of a figure having a plurality oi articulated limb parts mounted on said platform, a curved rack secured on the foot of said figure, the other of said feet being mounted toswirel on said platform, slidable rack, a guide for said rack, a motor, means for operating said slidable rack upon the operation of said motor to engage said curved rack to operate the limbs of said figure, a second figure on the base of said platform having art'culated limbs, and a band saw gripped by the outstretched hands of both igures to simulate he sawing operation upon the starting of said motor.
2. In a figure toy comprising two figures, a platform a base for said platform and a top plate therefor, one of said figures on the top plate and the other on the base-plate, the figure on the top plate having articulated limb parts and pivotally secured arms on its body part a connection between the pivot of the arms and pivotally secured to the upper of said articulated limb parts, a motor, a sliding rackbar, means connected to and operated by said motor to impart to said sliding rack bar a reciprocatory motion, a curved rack secured to one foot of the figure on the top bar adapted to be engaged by said sliding rack bar during its reciprocation to operate said articulated limbs and arms, a. band saw having upper and lower handles, the upper handle grasped by the hands of the figure on said top bar and the lower handle grasped by the hands of the figure on said base plate, said last named figure having arms pivotally secured to its body part and articulated limbs, both figures executing upon the operation of the motor a number of motions directed in various directions to operate the saw for the FRAN K JOHN GENSICKI.
