Description
UNITED STATES FRED HUBIC, OF TELLY, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA. I
' TOY.
- Application filed-July. 31,
To all whom it may concern:
I Be it known that I, 'Fnnn HUBIO, a citizen of Ukrainia, residing at Pelly, Province of Saskatchewan, and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This .invention relates to toys, having more particularlyreference to toys of the type in which a plurality of manikins or other figures are caused to execute certain movements.
The invention has for its principal .object the provision of anovel and inexpensive toy of this type for the amusement of children.
More specifically, the invention has for its object to provide a toy in which a number of boy dolls are made to execute various movements upon the operation of a see-saw carrying two of said. dolls.
A further object of the invention isthe provision of a wood saw adapted to be perated by two of-the boy dolls upon the operation of the see-saw.
For the further comprehension of themvention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following descriptionand accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the drawings- 7 Figure 1 is a side view of the toy constructed according to the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the base for the toy seen along the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section along line 3-3 of is illustrated the toy comprises a base 10 consisting of a frame having two longitudinal bars 11 and 11, connected by cross bars 12 and 13, which in turn are. connected by a central bar 14 parallel to bars 11 and 11.
At the front end of the base a gallows 15 is secured with its lower ends to the inner faces of the parallel bars 11 and 11' and the cross-bar 13. At some distance from the base the gallows forms the'support for a crank arm 16, the ends of which are extended beyond the outer faces of the gallows and, at one side, one end of a saw 17 is secured to the extension of the arm 16.
The hands 18 of the arms 19 of a boyor toy figure 20 standing upon the upper edge Specification of Letters Patent; 7
atented June 7, 1921.
1920. Serial .No. 400,463..
of the bar 11 are secured to the arm 16 to both sides of the saw 17 The opposite end of this saw is gripped between the, hands 21 of a toy figure 21', also standing uponthe upper edge of the bar 11. The saw is working upon the operation ofthe crank arm 16 by means of the handle 22 against a wooden block 23 suitably restingfupon a support or'post 24 a i To the crank 25 of the armbetween the posts 26 and 27 of the gallows, a wire or cable 28 is secured with .one end, the upper end of which is fastened to the underface'of a see-saw 29. near its front end. At this end of the board of the see-saw a. toy figure .30 issupported by the board while another toy figure representing a boy 31 is support: ing himself on the board.
This end of the see-saw 29 is connected bya wire .32 to another crank arm 33 between the posts 26 and 27, of the gallows above the first named arm. 16. To both sides of the connection between wire. 32 and arm 33 the hands 34 of a toy figure 35 are. secured, the legs 36 ,ofwhich carry feet secured to both-sides of the wire 28 of the arm 16. f r
. To'th e opposite extension of the arm 16 a wire or cable 38 is secured connected with its free endto an arm 39 rectangularly bent andv guided with its vertical member within a guide post 40 resting upon the bar 11" The wire or arm 39 is extended through the post, and atoy figure 41 on the central bar 14 hasits hands connected by a wire42 to the pointof connection of wire 32 with the see-saw. Another figure 43in rear of figure 41 is provided with a laterally extending wire 44 which is rectangularly bent and vertically extending through the toy figure 43 to carry the upper movable part of its body. Another toy figure 45 in rear of figure 43 has also a lateral extending wire 46 rectangularly bent and extending with its vertical member through the body of the figure 45 to carry its movable head 46 upon its upper end. The lateral wires 44 and 46 are connected by a common rod 47 to the exten sion of wire 39 at the lower end of the post 40.
From the foregoing description it will be clear that upon the operation of the crank handle 22 the figures 20 and 21' will with their arms and hands imitate the sawing operation of the saw '17 while simultaneously the see-saw will be operated,
which in turn will operate the figure 35 to v account of the turning move ent f th upper part of its-body will hit with its hands the ears of the figure 41in front of the same, and the figure. 45 will turn its head to the right and left.
In this manner a very amusing toy for childrenhas been created and while I have illustrated the preferred form of my toy, it
will be clear that a great many changes may be made in the minor details thereof and in the make up of the toy figures andtheir positions without departing from. the scope and spirit of my invention. 71 r Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- 1. A toy of the character described comprising in combination, a base,a' gallows at one end of said base, a see-saw near the top end of said gallows, a saw mounted upon a separate support near the foot of said gallows, two toy figures'on said Seesaw, and two figures operating said saw,
- means for operating said see-saw and said saw from a commonop erating handle, and a plurality of toy figures in rear ofisaid gallows adapted to be operated by the operation of said first namedoperating means to execute various movements. a
2. A toy'of the character described, com-" prising in combination, a frame-base, a gallows erected near the end of said base, a see-saw near the upper end of said gallows, two toy figures supported by said see saw near the ends thereof, a post near the lower end of said gallows, a block ofwood on said post, a saw adapted to work against saidblock, two toy figures-one at each end of said saw connected therewith, and common operating means for saidsaw operating figures andsaid see-saw, a plurality of other toy figures at the rear end of -said base, and means for imparting to said last named toy figures varying movement upon the operation of said'first named operating means.
3. A toy of the character described comprisingin combination a frame-base, a gallows on said base, a wood saw and see-saw, figureson said see-saw and figures operating said wood saw, a pair of crank arms, a crank for operating one of said arms, connections between said cranks and said seesaw and the other crank toy figures on said see-saw and at both ends of said wood saw, a toy figure having its hands connected to the connection between see-saw and one of said crank arms, and its feet connected to the connection. between saidy.-first named crank and said see-saw, and'a plurality of other toy figures on the rear of said frame, and means for impartingto said lastnamed figures a variety of motions upon the operation of said. crank. V 1 I r 1 4. A toy of the character" described com prising in combination, a base frame, a plurality of toy figures on the. rear of said frame, another group of figuresat-the front, a gallows at the front end thereof, crank arms superposed between the posts of said gallows, operating crankconnection be? tween said crank arms and'said groups of figures, means 'foroperating said crank arms andcrank connections for imparting to the hands of the figures of the rear group a rising motion, to impart a motion' to the bodies of said figures and a motion to their heads upon the operation of the figures of the other group including -a see-saw 0peratedby two of said figures, an acrobatic figure operated by the operation of said see-saw,-and'a wood saw adapted to be-operated by two figures of the. group of figures at the front upon the operation of the operating crank. In testimony whereof I have afiixeclmy signature. V i
