UNITED STATES ALVA HEYWOOD COOPER, OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA. i
BLOW-OUT SHOE.
Application' filed .Tune 17, 1925.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALvA H. COOPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State ot Georgia, have invented a new and useful Blow-Out Shoe, of which the following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide a blow out shoe for vehicle tires which may be manufactured at triiiing expense, the patch or shoe being so constituted that it will be flexible, stro-ng, inexpensive, and well adapted to withstand t-he severe use to which devices of the sort described are subject.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains. l
Vith the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made with in the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a plan; Figure 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Figure l, a part of the stitching being omitted; Figure 3 is a section on the line 3--3 ot Figure l, a. part of the stitching being omitted.
The blow out shoe forming the subject matter of this application compnises a body l, a cover 2, a plurality ot superposed layers 3 and 4 disposed between the body and the cover, said layers being of progressively decreasing areas and being housed completely by the cover, and means for securing together the body, the cover, and said layers. The smallest ot said layers, to wit, the layer 4 is disposed next to the cover 2, the cover Serial No. 37,758.
being of lessarea than the body 1. The means for securing together the body, the cover and the layers embodies a stitching extended in spiral form trom a point adjacent to the axis of the cover to a point adjacent to the perimeter of the cover, the stitching being designated by the numeral 5. diere the stitching makes a turn, it turns on a curve, as at 6, so that the stitching can be applied rapidly and conveniently in the process of manufacture.
The device may be fashioned out of any desired material, canvas being suggested. lt is to be observed that the layers 3 and 4 are housed by the cover 2, and a minimum number of open or exposed edges results. Owing to the specific way in which the cover 2 and the layers 8 and 4 are arranged with respect to each other and with respect to the body l, strength and flexibility characterize the device.
1. A blow out shoe comprising a body, a cover, a plurality of superposed layers disposed between the body and the cover, the smallest of said layers being disposed next to the cover, and the cover being of less area than the body, said layers being of progressively decreasing areas and being housed completely by the cover, and means for securing together the body, the cover, and said layers.
2. A blow-out shoe comprising a body, a cover, aplurality of superposed layers disposed between the body and the cover, said layers being Oi' progressively decreasing areas and being housed completely by the cover, and a stitching extended in spiral form from a point adjacent to the axis of the cover to a point adjacent to the perimeter of the cover.
1n testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, .l have hereto aiiixed my signature.
